Player Notes

  • Patrick Kane's pair not enough vs. Wild
Patrick Kane scored twice on Sunday to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead, but Minnesota came all the way back to beat the Hawks 3-2.

Advice: Kane now has 14 tallies and 47 points through 46 games. Kane earned a season high 27:06 of ice time, firing 12 shots on goal. Only three times this season has No. 88 been held off the scoresheet in consecutive games. Yesterday, 7:43 pm
  • Jason Pominville scores GWG over Chicago
Jason Pominville's third period marker lifted the Wild over the Blackhawks on Sunday evening.

Advice: Pominville may have just six goals and 18 points in 42 games, but four of those points have come in the past five games. Still, it seems the 34-year-old has taken a step back from the fantasy force he once was and will be hard pressed to crack 40 points again. Yesterday, 7:39 pm
  • Jared Boll scratched vs Ducks on Sunday
Jared Boll will be scratched from Sunday's match with Anaheim.

Advice: The veteran winger has posted 31 hits and 53 PIMs in 30 games this season. Yesterday, 4:54 pm
  • Upshall, Hunt scratched vs Ducks on Sunday
Scottie Upshall and Brad Hunt will be scratched against the Ducks on Sunday.

Advice: Hunt has managed to put up five points in nine games thus far. But Upshall has managed to produce just 23 PIMs and 41 hits across his 39 games of action. Yesterday, 4:52 pm
  • Callahan not expected back before end of Jan
Ryan Callahan (hip) isn't expected to be available to Tampa Bay until the end of January, at the earliest.

Advice: The veteran forward hasn't played since Jan. 7th, and he isn't traveling with the team on their six-game road trip. The trip ends on the 26th, and then Tampa will have their five-day bye week before finishing January with a game against the Bruins on the 31st. Yesterday, 4:40 pm
  • Jordin Tootoo scratched vs Wild on Sunday
Jordin Tootoo will be scratched against the Wild on Sunday.

Advice: Through 34 games so far this season the veteran winger has posted no points with 30 hits thus far. Which unfortunately makes him more suitable for the waiver wire. Yesterday, 2:25 pm
  • Tom Wilson now with four points in two games
Tom Wilson has registered four points over his last two games thanks to the helper he picked up in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Flyers.

Advice: He compiled a goal and two assists on Friday for a productive weekend. Wilson has chipped in just eight points in 43 games so far this season. Yesterday, 12:59 pm
  • Burakovsky gets Capitals rolling past Flyers
Andre Burakovsky got the Capitals rolling as they beat the Flyers 5-0 on Sunday.

Advice: Burakovsky opened the scoring midway through the game after he intercepted an errant Michael Del Zotto pass in the home plate area, and roofed it past Steve Mason. The 21-year-old forward now has six goals and 17 points in 40 games this season, including a mini two-game point streak. Yesterday, 12:42 pm
  • Chris Terry clears waivers, sent to AHL
Chris Terry was sent to AHL St. John's after he cleared waivers on Sunday.

Advice: Through his age-27 season, Terry has posted four points along with 10 hits in 14 games. In 20 games for the IceCaps the veteran winger has 10 goals and 26 points. Yesterday, 10:49 am

  • Rangers place Marek Hrivik on waivers on Sun
The Rangers have placed Marek Hrivik on waivers on Sunday.

Advice: If he clears, he'll head back to AHL Hartford. The 25-year-old has but three points in 21 career NHL games with the Rangers. He has eight goals and 17 points in 20 games with the Wolfpack this season, however. Yesterday, 10:44 am
  • Lightning summon Joel Vermin from AHL
The Lightning summoned Joel Vermin from AHL Syracuse on Sunday.

Advice: The 24-year-old has posted just three points in 14 career NHL games. Meanwhile he has picked up seven goals and 13 points in 23 games down on the farm. Yesterday, 10:39 am
  • Jake Virtanen improving in the minors
Although the numbers don't show it, Jake Virtanen has been improving in the minors.

Advice: Virtanen was selected sixth overall in 2014 but has yet to make a significant dent in the NHL as he had only seven goals and 13 points last season in 55 games and was sent to the minors this season after only one helper in 10 games. He has four AHL goals and seven points in 24 games but coach Travis Green has been impressed. "He has come here with a good attitude," said Green. "Sometimes, when players come down, it’s hard to get them into a mindset, but that hasn’t been the case since Day 1 with Jake. He has put in the work because when he first got here, playing 15 minutes was hard and he’s handling them well now. He’s getting to play a lot of minutes and getting practices during the week that he doesn’t get in the NHL and that’s all positive stuff for him. And I’m not concerned about his points because we don’t have an offensive group here and we’re constantly changing our lines. We want Jake to develop into a good pro who can play a 200-foot game." • Anton Rodin still having knee trouble
Anton Rodin is still having issues with his surgically repaired knee.

Advice: Rodin had knee surgery a year ago after lacerating his tendon in a Swedish Hockey League game. He came over to North America to play for the Canucks but he has yet to show his stuff as he is not 100 percent. He will be scratched once again on Sunday and his next appearance is unknown at this time. Yesterday, 7:27 am
  • Mikkel Boedker moves up to the second line
Mikkel Boedker saw second line time with Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc Saturday.

Advice: The Sharks were shutout so Boedker did not hit the scoresheet but he has looked very good this past week with four goals and an assist in his previous three games. He has only six goals and 13 points this season but certainly appears to be coming out of his season long funk. Yesterday, 7:23 am
  • Elias Linholm has three point night
Elias Lindholm scored once and added two assists in the Hurricanes 7-4 win Saturday.

Advice: Lindholm did all his damage on the first three goals and is now up to five goals and 18 points in 33 games as he is on a five game points streak in which he has three goals and seven points. He has been playing alongside Jordan Staal and Brock McGinn and the trio have been lighting it up of late. Lindholm could be worth a pick up in most pools right now. Yesterday, 5:08 am
  • Ryan White to practice on Sunday
Ryan White is expected to be at practice Sunday after suffering a lower body injury 10 games ago.

Advice: White has been out since December 21 and has two goals and five points in 30 games but his points total is not the reason the Coyotes have him in the lineup when he is healthy as he is a rugged bottom-six forward who makes things happen. If you are in need of penalty minutes then White is your man as he has 60 this season. Yesterday, 4:23 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Stefan Noesen finds second time around easier
Stefan Noesen feels more at home in his second go-round with the Anaheim Ducks.

Advice: Noesen was recalled earlier this season from San Diego and had a goal in seven games after making his NHL debut in April 2015. "I’m starting to almost become part of the team and feel like I belong," Noesen said. "I think that’s probably the most crucial part is making sure that you feel comfortable. Because if you don’t feel comfortable somewhere you’re always going to be very hesitant and very nervous all the time." Noesen was drafted 21st overall by Ottawa in 2011 and came to the Ducks in the Bobby Ryan trade. He has no value in fantasy at this time. Yesterday, 4:07 am
  • Alexander Steen has been hot lately
Alexander Steen has seven points in his last six contests.

Advice: Steen now has five goals and 25 points in 37 games this season. He endured a rough patch from Dec. 11-22 where he was limited to an assist in seven contests, but beyond that he's been a reliable bet for much of the campaign. As long as he stays healthy for the rest of the season, he should still be able to reach the 50-point mark. Yesterday, 2:17 am
  • Shawn Thornton nets his first goal of 2016-17
Shawn Thornton scored his first goal of the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday.

Advice: Thornton also has an assist in 19 games this season. He's been good for exactly one goal in each of his last three campaigns, so it wouldn't be at all surprising if he goes the rest of 2016-17 without finding the back of the net again. Yesterday, 1:54 am
  • Has Jason Spezza's role declined?
Jason Spezza hasn't been getting much ice time lately.

Advice: Spezza has logged between 12:44 and 14:24 minutes in his last four contests. That's in stark contrast to the six games that preceded that where he was on the ice for over 17 minutes in every contest. He hasn't been on a consistent line recently either, although his most common linemates over his last three games have been Jiri Hudler and Tyler Seguin. He's also still getting plenty of power-play time despite his dip in overall minutes. For now this is just something to monitor, but obviously if his role with the team has declined in a more permanent sense then his fantasy value will dip accordingly. Yesterday, 1:33 am
