    • Signs two-year contract
Villalta signed a two-year, two-way contract with Utah HC on Wednesday.

Advice: Villalta was set to become an unrestricted free agent in July after completing his one-year, two-way deal for the 2023-24 campaign. He had a 2.54 GAA and a .911 save percentage in 51 regular-season outings with AHL Tucson this year. He also appeared in two games with Arizona, posting a 4.17 GAA and an .828 save percentage. • Involved in major trade
Kuemper was dealt to the Kings from the Capitals on Wednesday in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Advice: Kuemper had a 13-14-3 record, 3.31 GAA and .890 save percentage in 33 regular-season appearances with Washington in 2023-24. Perhaps the 34-year-old will benefit from the change of scenery and rebound, but he'll likely begin the 2024-25 as the backup netminder. Between his age and recent results, the three seasons remaining on Kuemper's five-year, $26.25 million contract seem rather undesirable. The fact that he's the only return LA got for Dubois speaks to how much the 25-year-old forward's market value has fallen following his 40-point season and due to the seven seasons remaining on his eight-year, $64 million deal. • Acquired by Devils
Markstrom was acquired by the Devils from the Flames on Wednesday in exchange for Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round pick, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.

Advice: Markstrom posted a 23-23-2 record, 2.78 GAA and .905 save percentage in 48 games with the Flames in 2023-24. He has two seasons remaining on his six-year, $36 million contract and has a no-movement clause, which means he had to approve this trade to New Jersey. Calgary has agreed to retain 31.25 percent of his remaining contract, which leaves New Jersey with a cap hit of $4.125 million for each of the next two years. The Devils missed out on the playoffs in large part due to poor goaltending, and the addition of Markstrom should address that. The 34-year-old is a safe bet to begin the 2024-25 campaign as the Devils' No. 1 netminder. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:29 am
    • Officially retired
Elliott is joining the Blues as a scout and development coach, officially marking the end of his NHL playing career.

Advice: Elliott spent 16 years in the NHL with five of those as a Blue. He also played for Ottawa, Philadelphia, Colorado, Calgary and, most recently, Tampa Bay. The 39-year-old went 279-167-54 with a .909 save percentage and a 2.57 GAA in 543 career appearances. Elliott ended his career with a 32-save shutout against Detroit on April 13, 2023. • Makes playoff debut
Stolarz allowed three goals on 19 shots in relief of Sergei Bobrovsky in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 4.

Advice: Few goalies in the world could have stopped a desperate Oilers squad in Saturday's contest. Stolarz had never played in an NHL playoff game, and it was nearly two months to the day since he last drew into a game, as Bobrovsky had played every minute of the Panthers' postseason run. Head coach Paul Maurice will likely go back to Bobrovsky for Game 5 on Tuesday, so Stolarz is unlikely to play again unless Bobrovsky continues to struggle or suffers an injury. • Inks one-year deal
Ellis agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis on Tuesday.

Advice: Ellis split his time between the AHL and ECHL this season, logging 16 games for AHL Springfield in which he posted a 7-9-0 record and .924 save percentage while also going 12-5-2 for ECHL Orlando. Selected by the Blues in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, the Nova Scotia native shouldn't be expected to make his NHL debut anytime soon but could push for a more prominent role with the AHL Thunderbirds. • Returning to Swedish club
Alnefelt inked a three-year contract with former club HV71 (Sweden) on Tuesday.

Advice: Alnefelt is expected to be a restricted free agent this offseason, so the Lightning could retain his NHL rights by giving him a qualifying offer. Having said that, the fact that the backstop signed a three-year deal would certainly seem to indicate he won't be returning to North America. With AHL Syracuse this past season, the 23-year-old Swede went 14-8-4 with a 2.76 GAA and an .893 save percentage. Alnefelt made one appearance for the Bolts back in 2021-22, and that seems likely to be his only NHL outing for his professional career. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:14 am
