Player Notes

  • JVR, Matthews score 11th goals in loss
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews tied the Vancouver Canucks at the 1:56 minute mark of the third period before eventually losing in shootout overtime 3-2 Saturday night.

Advice: This was Matthews’ 11th goal of the season. Notably, the other scorer for the Leafs also recorded his 11th when James van Riemsdyk sunk a puck at the 11:30 minute mark of the second. The two shooters are tied at the top of the Leaf’s leaderboard in terms of goals, but with one more assist JVR gets the nod in fantasy value. 33 minutes ago
  • Carter Hutton records .870 in loss to Jet
Carter Hutton faced only 23 shots and let three of them into the net as the St Louis Blues lost a 3-2 contest to the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night.

Advice: The backup’s numbers fall to 2-5-0 with a save percentage of only .891 entering this game and he will take a slight downward adjustment. He is on a four-game losing streak, but there are some signs of improvement as he gave up only three goals Saturday night compared to four versus the Capitals on November 23rd and four against the Blue Jackets on the 12th. 42 minutes ago
  • Pietrangelo gets two assists in loss to Jets
Alex Pietrangelo had an assist on both St Louis Blues goals as they lost a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night.

Advice: Pietrangelo’s assists were to Alexander Steen at the 5:16 minute mark and Dmitrij Jaskin’s at 7:26. This lifts him to nine assists for the season and 14 points—decent marks for a defenseman. Pietrangelo has scored points in four of his last five games. 49 minutes ago
  • Bryan Little scores GWG in OT win over Blues
Bryan Little scored the overtime goal that lifted the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-2 win over the St Louis Blues Saturday night.

Advice: Little also had an assist on Patrik Laine’s game tying goal in the second period. This was both his second goal of the season and his second assist. Laine returned the favor in overtime by providing an assist on Little’s goal and since that was his seventh for the season on top of 16 goals, he is far more fantasy relevant. 55 minutes ago
  • Jared Coreau records loss in 1st NHL game
Jared Coreau’s NHL debut resulted in a 5-3 loss of the Detroit Red Wings to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Advice: Coreau was not terrible with 32 saves on 36 shots, but he did not impress fantasy owners enough to make them want to take a risk on him before he returns to the AHL. Today, 9:08 pm
  • Too soon for Fleury bandwagon after Wings win
Marc-Andre Fleury gave up three goals on only 31 shots Saturday night, but it was enough to give the Pittsburgh Penguins the edge in a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Advice: It is probably not time to start considering Fleury again, however. After losing six in a row, he got a ton of help on the other end of the ice to post a 6-2 win Thursday night over the Stars. In that game, he had a .943 save percentage. Saturday night against the Wings, he could muster only a .903 and owes a lot of credit to his shooters. Today, 9:03 pm
  • Andersen gives up 2 shootouts goals in loss
Frederik Andersen gave up two shootout goals Saturday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs lost 3-2 to the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: In victory and loss, Andersen has been respectable recently. He stopped 22 of 24 shots during regulation and overtime on Saturday. This was the ninth consecutive game that he broke the .900 mark with a best of .943 last Saturday night in a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Today, 7:27 pm
  • Brian Boyle scores winning goal in shootout
Brian Boyle scored in the fourth round of a shootout as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 Saturday night.

Advice: The pressure was on Boyle as the Lightning were back on their heels with a four-game losing streak. During this stretch, the Bolts scored only one goal in two of their contests, but the other two losses came with three goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 25th and the St Louis Blues on Thursday. Nikita Kucherov scored the lone goal for Tampa Bay in regulation. Today, 7:11 pm
  • Puljujarvi and Simpson out vs Ducks
A talented bunch will be scratched from Saturday's match against the Ducks.

Advice: Joining him in the press box will be Dillon Simpson. Puljujarvi has just seven points and a single goal through 20 games, he's great for a dynasty league but that's about it. Today, 6:10 pm
  • Kinkaid stops 38 win over Preds
Keith Kinkaid's made 38 saves in a 5-4 OT win over the Predators on Saturday.

Advice: The career backup has now seen 40-plus shots in three straight games. The win lifts his record to 3-1-2 with 16 goals against and a .928 save percentage this season. Today, 5:20 pm
  • Rask fends of Sabres for the win
Tuukka Rask fended off the Sabres' attack during Saturday's 2-1 in.

Advice: He turned away 35 of 36 combined shots, including all four asked of him while on the kill. Rask's already otherworldly numbers improve to 13-4-1 with a 1.60 GAA and a .941 save percentage. Today, 4:59 pm
  • Scheifele (LBI) out of Saturday's game vs StL
Mark Scheifele will be held out of Saturday's match with the Blues due to a lower-body injury.

Advice: He is questionable to play on Sunday as well. Alexander Burmistrov will replace him in the lineup. Consider Scheifele day-to-day for now. Today, 3:46 pm
  • Blues scratch Ty Rattie vs Oilers on Saturday
Ty Rattie will watch Saturday's match with the Oilers from the press box.

Advice: Rattie has seen just four games of action this season with 29 shifts and just one shot on net. He no longer holds any fantasy value, unfortunately. Today, 1:45 pm
  • Fayne replaces injured Nurse vs Ducks on Sat
Mark Fayne will replace the injured Darnell Nurse on Saturday against the Ducks.

Advice: "I'm fortunate to get back in tonight and hoping to make an impact," Fayne said. This will be Fayne's second game of the season, he has 64 points in 386 career NHL games. Today, 10:39 am
  • Landeskog skates 'a bit' on Saturday
Some good news for Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog.

Advice: He skated "a bit" on his own Saturday morning, indicating he's at least healing up from his lower body injury. There's still no timetable for his return, however. Today, 10:10 am
    Injured Reserve
  • JT Miller will play Saturday vs Canes
JT Miller will continue to push his way through a knee injury.

Advice: And he hasn't missed any time yet, either. He's having a breakout season with eight goals and 19 points in just 25 games, so keep him in your lineup. Today, 9:58 am
  • Penguins get Chris Kunitz back from I/R
The Penguins are getting Chris Kunitz back from I/R on Saturday.

Advice: Pittsburgh's locker room just got a bit jollier. The 37-year-old has posted two goals and 11 points with 18 PIMs and 59 hits in just 18 games this season. So you should get him back in your lineup, too. Today, 9:47 am
  • Wild top line wasn't very good on Friday
The Wild's top line of Eric Staal, Charlie Coyle and Zach Parise wasn't very good in Friday's shootout loss to Calgary, per head coach Bruce Boudreau.

Advice: Boudreau called his team "sluggish" after the game and he didn't hesitate to call out his top line. "They weren’t very good," Boudreau said of the first line. "They’ve got to get going on their own. We can prod them, but in the end, we need those guys to be our best players, or we’re not going to have success." The trio had two even-strength shots on goals and no points. Today, 8:12 am
  • Martin Jones great in win over Habs on Friday
Martin Jones allowed one goal on 32 shots in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.

Advice: The greatest save of the game occurred midway through the first period when he absolutely robbed Alex Galchenyuk of a goal with his glove. Jones then lost his shutout bid with less than two minutes remaining in the game when Artturi Lehkonen put the puck passed him on a powerplay. Jones has now won five of his last six starts, giving up one goal or less in each of those wins. The win improves his record to 13-8-1, with a 1.99 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. Yesterday, 10:27 pm
  • Ryan Suter picks up an assist in SO loss
Ryan Suter picked up an assist in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Advice: It was a typical Suter night in Calgary, doing a bit of everything and always looking one step ahead of his opponents. He logged just over 28 minutes in the contest, recorded an assist, finished a plus-2, and had one shot on goal. With 16 points in 23 games this season, he is quietly on pace for a career year in Minnesota. It will be interesting to see how the rest of his year plays out offensively considering he has eclipsed 50 points only once in his entire career (2015-16). Yesterday, 9:52 pm
