  • J.T. Compher registers game-winning goal
J.T. Compher posted his seventh goal of the season in Monday's 2-1 road win against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Advice: Compher was helped out by Conor Timmins and Alex Newhook at 11:33 of the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie, and he ended up securing his first game winner since March 25, which was also against VGK. He has points in back-to-back games for the first time since March 29-31, too. Compher might not be someone you'd normally bother with in most seasonal fantasy pools, but he is someone to watch in deeper postseason pools. Yesterday, 9:54 pm
  • Alex Newhook picks up two assists in road win
Alex Newhook posted two assists in Monday's 2-1 road win against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Advice: Newhook entered the game with one helper and a plus-3 rating, so this was obviously his first-ever multi-point game. The 16th overall pick by the Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft is starting to get his chance to play, and he is fitting in, posting three helpers across his first four NHL games. He has a plus-1 in each of his four outings so far. He isn't someone to focus upon heading into postseason fantasy pools, but he is a player those in long-term dynasty formats will want to keep an eye on. Yesterday, 9:51 pm
  • Sebastian Aho has 3 SOG in shutout loss to NSH
Sebastian Aho had three goals on goal during Monday's 5-0 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Advice: Aho has now gone three straight games without picking up a point, but the entire team failed to get a puck by Predators veteran Pekka Rinne. The 23-year-old finished the night with a minus-2 rating and two penalty minutes in 13:08 of ice time. The Hurricanes forward finishes the regular season with 24 goals and 57 points in 56 games. These two teams will go head-to-head in the opening round of postseason. Yesterday, 7:50 pm
  • Matt Duchene scores twice in win over Hurricanes
Matt Duchene scored a pair of goals during Monday's 5-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Advice: Duchene gave the Predators 2-0 and 3-0 in the first two periods of the game and they cruised the rest of the way. The 30-year-old finished the night with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 16:36 of ice time. It's been a tough year for him in Nashville, but he could be building some positive momentum heading into the playoffs. Duchene finishes the regular season with six goals and just 13 points in 33 games this season. These two teams will go head-to-head in the opening round of the postseason. Yesterday, 7:42 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe scores 18th goal in win over TB
Carter Verhaeghe found the back of the net during Monday's 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Advice: Verhaeghe was back in the lineup after missing 13 games with an upper-body injury and he managed to find the back of the net in his first game back in the lineup. He finished the night with a plus-1 rating, four penalty minutes and one shot on goal in 16:01 of ice time. The 25-year-old has had a terrific first season with the Panthers. He now has 18 goals and 18 assists in 36 games this season. MacKenzie Weegar, Juho Lammikko and Alex Wennberg also scored for the Bolts on Monday night. Yesterday, 7:22 pm
  • Mathew Barzal picks up 1G, 1A in loss vs. Boston
Mathew Barzal lit the lamp and picked up an assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins.

Advice: Barzal turned in front of Charlie McAvoy and ripped a wicked wrist shot past Tuukka Rask to tie the game up at 2-2 at the 8:31 mark of the second period. The 23-year-old also teed-up Oliver Wahlstrom on the power play for the Islanders first goal of the game earlier in the period. He finished the game with two shots on goal and a hit in 19:18 of ice time. Barzal finished the regular season with 17 goals and 28 assists. Yesterday, 7:14 pm
  • Jake Evans collects 1G, 2A in OTL to Oilers
Jake Evans scored a goal and two assists in Monday's 4-3 OT loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Advice: With Phillip Danault out of the lineup, Evans was tasked with shutting down Connor McDavid. The youngster did a pretty good job taking it to McDavid in regulation (the Oilers captain finished the night with the OT winner and an assist). Evans looked really comfortable playing with Paul Byron (two points) and Artturi Lehkonen (three points) and he got a pair of shifts in overtime. The 24-year-old now has three goals and 10 assists in 46 games this season. Yesterday, 7:12 pm
  • Connor McDavid nets OT winner vs. Habs Monday
Connor McDavid picked up a goal and an assist during Monday's 4-3 OT win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Advice: McDavid continues to pile up points this season, but it will be interesting to see whether or not he suits up on Wednesday night in Montreal or in the regular-season finale on Saturday against Vancouver. McDavid set up Dominik Kahun's go-ahead goal (3-2) in the second frame and he added the game-winner on a breakaway in overtime. Believe it or not, McDavid had his hands full with the Canadiens' checking line of Artturi Lehkonen, Jake Evans and Paul Byron. The Oilers captain has 33 goals and 102 points in 54 games this season. He's going to win the Hart Trophy. Yesterday, 7:07 pm
  • Pavel Zacha scores in loss vs. Flyers
Pavel Zacha scored a goal in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Advice: Zacha took a slick pass from Nico Hischier in the early stages of the first period and quickly released the puck to get the Devils on the board. Just under two minutes later, Janne Kuokkanen put one in the back of the net to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead but their offense stalled after that. Zacha finished the game with a plus-1 rating, two shots on goal, and a minor penalty in 15:21 of ice time. The 24-year-old has 17 goals and 18 assists in 50 games. Yesterday, 6:44 pm
  • Liam O'Brien sits against Vegas
The Colorado Avalanche won't dress Liam O'Brien on Monday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Advice: Kiefer Sherwood will also be scratched on Monday night. Yesterday, 6:38 pm
  • Rhett Gardner scratched against Chicago
The Dallas Stars won't dress Rhett Gardner on Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Advice: Gardner will finish having not dressed in three of Dallas' last four games. Sami Vatanen will also be scratched. Yesterday, 4:42 pm
  • Trent Frederic scratched against Islanders
The Boston Bruins won't dress Trent Frederic on Monday night against the New York Islanders.

Advice: Frederic has four goals and five points in 41 games this season. Jakub Zboril, Steven Kampfer, Connor Clifton and Jared Tinordi will also be scratched. Yesterday, 3:49 pm
  • Jackson Cates scratched against Devils
The Philadelphia Flyers won't dress Jackson Cates on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils.

Advice: Make this six straight in the press box for Cates. Robert Hagg and Samuel Morin will also be scratched. Yesterday, 3:36 pm
  • Eichel talks injuries, 'disconnect' with Sabres
Jack Eichel spoke to the media on Monday about his injury situation as well as what has become a rocky relationship with the Buffalo Sabres.

Advice: “For sure, I would say I've been a bit upset about the way things have been handled since I've been hurt. I would be lying to say that things have moved smoothly since my injury,” said Eichel. “So yeah, I think there's been a bit of a disconnect I think from the organization and myself. It's been tough at times. But right now, for me, I think the most important thing is just trying to get healthy and figure out a way to be available to play hockey next year, wherever that might be.” He wanted to have surgery as soon as possible, but that ended up being vetoed by the team because they wanted it to be used as a last resort. Eichel said that surgery remains an option. He suffered a broken rib during a preseason workout and was playing through a lingering abdominal injury that occurred last season. He also had an ankle sprain in February that sidelined him for two games. Eichel missed the last 33 games of the year because of a herniated disc in his neck, which is what he wanted to have a procedure on to repair. There were plenty of trade rumors circulating Eichel this year and that talk is sure to pick up again. Yesterday, 1:44 pm
  • Ivan Barbashev good to go on Monday night
Ivan Barbashev will be in the lineup on Monday night against Los Angeles.

Advice: Barbashev appeared to be in serious pain when he left the ice on Saturday. He wasn't able to put any weight on his left leg when he left St. Louis' game against Vegas late, but he will play on Monday. Barbashev is also slated to play on the top line with Ryan O'Reilly and David Perron. Yesterday, 1:38 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe back in the lineup Monday
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) will be back in the Florida lineup Monday.

Advice: Verhaeghe has been out since April 10 and will get the opportunity to play in one game before the start of the playoffs. He is having a career year with 17 goals and 35 points in 42 games. In roto-style pools, get him back in your lineup as head-to-head leagues are done. Verhaeghe will also make a nice pick in a playoff pool if you think the Panthers are going on a run. Yesterday, 7:25 am
  • Connor McDavid hits 100-point mark on Saturday
Connor McDavid picked up a goal and three assists during Saturday's 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: What McDavid has done this year is absolutely remarkable. The Oilers captain opened the scoring 45 seconds into the game and he added helpers on goals by Jesse Puljujarvi (2-0), Leon Draisaitl (twice). He finished the night with a plus-1 rating, two penalty minutes and four shots on goal in 22:15 of ice time. That last assist allowed McDavid to reach the 100-point mark for the season in just 53 games. There's a lot of great players in the NHL, but nobody has the combination of speed and skill that McDavid possesses. Saturday, 9:37 pm
  • Mathew Barzal picks up two points vs. Devils
Mathew Barzal posted a goal with an assist in Saturday's 5-1 win against the New Jersey Devils.

Advice: Barzal ended up with a plus-1 rating, two shots on goal and a minor penalty while winning three of his seven faceoff attempts (42.9 percent). Surprisingly it was his first multi-point effort since April 11 against the New York Rangers, as he entered with just two goals and four points across his past 11 outings, while turning in a dismal minus-3 rating. Fantasy managers hope he can finish up the regular season strong, and Islanders fans hope this will get him going heading into the postseason. Saturday, 8:26 pm
  • Jackson Cates scratched against Capitals
The Philadelphia Flyers won't dress Jackson Cates on Saturday night against the Washington Capitals.

Advice: Cates has a point in four games this season and will sit in his fifth straight game. Robert Hagg will also be scratched. Saturday, 3:56 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe (UBI) won't play on Saturday
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) will miss Saturday's game.

Advice: Verhaeghe should be back in the lineup on Monday though, according to Panthers coach Joel Quenneville. Verhaeghe has 17 goals and 35 points in 42 contests in 2020-21. Saturday, 12:00 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe practices with fifth line
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) practiced with the fifth line Saturday.

Advice: It appears that Verhaeghe will not be in the lineup after it looked promising on Thursday when he practiced with Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair. The Panthers could use him back in the lineup once he is ready to go as he had 17 goals and 35 points in 42 games before his injury. Saturday, 7:06 am
  • Liam O'Brien scratched vs. LA Kings
The Colorado Avalanche won't dress Liam O'Brien on Friday night against the Los Angeles Kings.

Advice: Make this five straight for him in the press box. The 26-year-old has three points in 12 games this season. Friday, 6:45 pm
  • Jackson Cates scratched against Washington
The Philadelphia Flyers won't dress Jackson Cates on Friday night against the Washington Capitals.

Advice: Cates was signed as an undrafted free-agent at the conclusion of his season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He has a point in four games this season. Robert Hagg will also be watching from the press box. Friday, 3:38 pm
  • Connor McDavid moves up to 96 points
Connor McDavid registered three assists in Edmonton's 6-3 loss to Vancouver Thursday night.

Advice: McDavid has an unbelievable 27 points in his last 10 contests. That's propelled him to 31 goals and 96 points in 52 contests, putting him just four points from 100 with four contests remaining. Friday, 6:35 am
  • Pavel Zacha stays hot in win over Islanders
Pavel Zacha scored a goal in Thursday's 2-1 win over the New York Islanders.

Advice: Zacha opened the scoring at the 14:11 mark of the first period and Michael McLeod gave the Devils a 2-1 lead in the middle frame. The 24-year-old has been hot as of late and he's put together a relatively good offensive season. He's picked up nine points in his last seven games and three goals in his last two outings. He now has 16 goals and 34 points in 48 games this season. Thursday, 6:53 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe practices, may be back Saturday
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) appears to be on track for a return to the lineup on Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Verhaeghe practiced alongside Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair during Thursday's practice and coach Joel Quenneville thinks that the Panthers forward should be ready to play. Verhaeghe has been out since April 10 due to an upper-body injury. Thursday, 9:45 am
  • Mathew Barzal is good to play on Thursday
Mathew Barzal (undisclosed) will draw back into the lineup on Thursday, according to Islanders coach Barry Trotz.

Advice: Barzal was a late scratch on Tuesday, but it seems he'll get right back into the lineup. He has 15 goals and 41 points in 52 contests this season. Thursday, 7:59 am
  • Gretzky: Hart is 'Connor’s trophy' this season
Wayne Gretzky sees Connor McDavid as far and away the best choice for the Hart Trophy this season.

Advice: “No question, he’s the MVP of the league. Only guy, in my mind, who deserves consideration is Sidney (Crosby) for what he’s done in Pittsburgh. Nobody anticipated them being in first place,” said Gretzky. “But it’s Connor’s trophy.” It would be shocking if McDavid didn't get the Hart Trophy this season. He has 31 goals and 93 points in 51 contests while the next best player, teammate Leon Draisaitl, has 75 points. After that, Nathan MacKinnon is in third place with 65 points. In other words, no one has even been close to McDavid in terms of points this season. Thursday, 7:02 am
  • Alex Newhook makes his NHL debut Wednesday
Alex Newhook logged 13:20 minutes in his NHL debut on Wednesday.

Advice: Newhook had a shot on goal and plus-one rating in Colorado's 3-2 loss to San Jose. While those numbers don't jump out, it was a good first step for the 20-year-old forward. “Really proud to be here, excited to get in here with this group of guys,” Newhook said. “You kind of dream of this day. I’ve been dreaming of it my whole life. It’s exciting. I called my parents right away; they’re the first people to know. It’s been great so far, trying to take it all in.” He also has four goals and nine points in eight AHL contests this season. Thursday, 6:47 am
  • Liam O'Brien scratched against Sharks

  • Alex Newhook to make NHL debut Wednesday
Rookie Alex Newhook will make his NHL debut Wednesday according to head coach Jared Bednar.

Advice: There is no better authority to have give the information than the head coach. Newhook was drafted 16th overall in 2019 and had seven goals and 16 points in 12 games with Boston College this season. He has played with the Colorado Eagles since signing and had five goals in eight games with the AHL club before his recall. Wednesday, 7:15 am
  • Pavel Zacha scores twice in OT win over Bruins
Pavel Zacha scored twice in Tuesday's 4-3 OT win over the Boston Bruins.

Advice: Zacha opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:42 mark of the first period and he added the game-winning goal at the midway point of overtime. The Devils forward finished the game with an even rating, three shots on goal and four hits in 18:22 of ice time. The 24-year-old is having a career-year, as he's up to 15 goals and 31 points in 46 games this season. Jesper Boqvist and Yegor Sharangovich also found the back of the net for the Devils on Tuesday night. Tuesday, 7:13 pm
  • Mat Barzal (undisclosed) out on Tuesday night
The New York Islanders won't have Mat Barzal (undisclosed) in their lineup on Tuesday night when they face the Buffalo Sabres.

Advice: Barzal didn't jump out for warmups with the rest of his teammates, effectively ruling him out of tonight's game. It's a terrible time to go down, as fantasy managers are right in the thick of the Fantasy Finals. Barzal has 15 goals and 41 points in 52 games so far this season. Consider him day-to-day. Tuesday, 3:33 pm
  • McDavid not focused on hitting 100-point mark
Connor McDavid isn't focused on reaching the 100-point milestone.

Advice: As previously reported, McDavid had four points on Monday, bringing him up to 31 goals and 90 points in 50 contests this season. With six games left for Edmonton, it's entirely feasible for McDavid to reach the 100-point milestone despite the shortened schedule. “I’m trying to play the best I can, and personally, make sure my game is where it needs to be heading into the playoffs,” McDavid said. “I’ve said this before (100) is a number, if I get there great, if not, it’s not the end of the world either. The most important thing is that our team is gearing up for the playoffs and making sure we’re flying on all cylinders in Game 1.” While it makes sense that his priority is being ready for the playoffs, reaching the 100-point milestone this season would be an incredible way to cap off an already superb season. Tuesday, 7:10 am
  • Alex Newhook will likely make NHL debut soon
Alex Newhook will likely make his NHL debut during the Avalanche's current road trip, per Avalanche coach Jared Bednar.

Advice: Colorado has four games remaining in the road trip with its next contest coming on Wednesday in San Jose. Newhook has five goals and nine points in eight AHL games this season since completing his sophomore season with Boston College. “It’s a very good possibility that he’ll play on this trip,” Bednar said of Newhook. “I want to let him settle in for a day here. If we’re putting him in, we want to put him into a situation and position where he can succeed. Obviously, he’s got a knack offensively. He’s made an impact (with the Eagles) in a short amount of time so we’d like to give him the same opportunity here playing with good players, and play him up the lineup a little bit.” Tuesday, 6:50 am
  • Another day, another huge game for Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid picked up two goals and two assists in Monday's 5-3 road win against the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: McDavid registered his 30th goal of the season on an unassisted goal, and he had an empty-net goal with just one minute left in regulation. He also registered his 59th and 60th assists of the season in the victory while finishing with a plus-2 rating, a blocked shot and a hit while splitting his 12 faceoff attempts in 18:40 of ice across 20 shifts. McDavid has nine goals and 27 points with a plus-13 rating across the past 11 outings, and he has 91 points overall. Like Larry David would say, that's pretty, pretty, pretty good. Monday, 11:14 pm
  • Sebastian Aho scores hat-trick vs. CHI on Monday
Sebastian Aho scored a hat-trick in Monday's 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Advice: Aho scored back-to-back goals in the second period to put Carolina up 3-0 and 4-0 at the time, and completed the hat-trick by scoring into an empty net late in regulation. He finished the night with a plus-2 rating, two penalty minutes and nine shots on goal in 17:50 of ice time. Aho has picked up 15 points during his current eight-game point streak. The 23-year-old has 24 goals and 55 points in 52 games this season. Dougie Hamilton and Martin Necas also found the back for the net for the Hurricanes on Monday night. Monday, 8:03 pm
  • Carter Verhaeghe close to returning to lineup
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) "real close" to being available to play, per coach Joel Quenneville.

Advice: Verhaeghe has been sidelined since April 10 due to an upper-body injury. The Panthers were optimistic last week that he would be ready to return before the end of the regular season. Florida has two games left after Monday's contest. Monday, 10:44 am
  • McDavid's focus isn't on reaching 100-point mark
Connor McDavid's focus isn't on reaching the 100-point mark during this shortened 2020-21 season.

Advice: McDavid needs only 13 points in Edmonton's last seven games, assuming he plays in all of them. "Personally, I want to continue to play good hockey," McDavid said Saturday. "Our group wants to continue to play good hockey. We want to go into the playoffs on a good note. Personally, it's a number. Obviously, it would be kind of different to be able to do it in a shortened season. I'm not going to change anything. I'm just going to keep playing my game and if I get there, I get there. And if not, whatever." This was a typical McDavid response, but it would be quite the accomplishment. He has recorded a multi-point effort in six of his last seven outings. McDavid will look to stay red hot this week when the Oilers open a four-game series versus Vancouver on Monday. May 2, 2:10 pm
  • Alex Newhook moves to Colorado's taxi squad
Alex Newhook has been added to the taxi squad of the Colorado Avalanche.

Advice: Newhook has racked up five goals and nine points in eight matches with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL this year. He signed his entry-level contract with the Avalanche at the end of the March following the completion of his sophomore season with Boston College. May 2, 9:12 am
  • Connor McDavid has three-point night vs. CGY
Connor McDavid had a three-point night during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

Advice: McDavid's first point of the game came as the first goal of the game, scored 4:46 after puck drop on the power play. Under three minutes later, McDavid went on to secure the primary assist on a goal scored by Ethan Bear. In the final period of play, McDavid capped off his night with another assist. This performance improves McDavid's goal total to 29 and assist total to 58. Also, he now has 87 points on the year, which continues to be the most in the league. The next closest player is 16 points behind the 24-year-old. This was McDavid's 400th career game and he has 556 career points after this one. He has the seventh-most points through 400 games in NHL history. May 1, 10:15 pm
  • Connor McDavid to play in 400th NHL game Saturday
Connor McDavid will play in his 400th NHL game Saturday.

Advice: McDavid looks to be a shoo-in to win at least three trophies as he leads the race for the Art Ross, while he has been the best player in the NHL so he should be awarded the Ted Lindsay as voted upon by the players, as well as the Hart. McDavid has 28 goals and 84 points in only 48 games this season. He has 190 goals and 553 points in 399 NHL games to date. May 1, 8:48 am
  • Avalanche make Liam O'Brien a scratch
