  • Jacob Markstrom pulled after two periods of play
Jacob Markstrom was pulled after two periods of play, giving up four goals on 34 shots.

Advice: The Oilers were all over the Flames from the get-go and Markstrom was outstanding in keeping the Flames in the contest as he stopped all 21 shots in the opening period and six of the first seven in the second. Unfortunately, he gave up goals to Evander Kane on the next three shots in six minutes in the second and was sent to the bench for the third, replaced by Dan Vladar who stopped all seven Edmonton shots in the third. Markstrom is 5-5 with a 2.65 GAA and a .912 save percentage. Look for Markstrom to be back in net Tuesday for Game 4. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:22 pm
  • Oliver Kylington scores first career playoff goal
Oliver Kylington scored his first career playoff goal Sunday.

Advice: Unfortunately it was a little too late as the goal broke up the shutout bid of the Oilers who used both Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen in net Sunday. Kylington's shot seemed to baffle Smith who looked awkward on the goal. Kylington has two points in 10 playoff games and was sent up by Dillon Dube and Calle Jarnkrok.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:16 pm
  • Leon Draisaitl assists on all four goals Sunday
Leon Draisaitl assisted on all four goals Sunday in Edmonton's 4-1 win over Calgary.

  • Zach Hyman opens the scoring for the Oilers Sunday

Advice: Hyman has six goals in 10 games for the Oilers, surpassing his five goals in 32 games in the post-season as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:10 pm
  • Connor McDavid has 3 assists in Oilers Game 3 win
Connor McDavid had three assists in the Oilers 4-1 Game 3 win over Calgary Sunday.

Advice: The Great McDavid has 23 points in 10 games to lead all NHL players and his three point effort was the ninth time in 10 playoff games that he has had multiple points. He had the primary assist on all three of his setups as the Flames are unable to stop the NHL's best player. As hard as it is to believe, McDavid has taken his outstanding game to yet another level.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:08 pm
  • Evander Kane gets natural hat trick in Oilers win
Evander Kane had the natural hat trick as the Edmonton Oilers defeated Calgary 4-1.

Advice: Kane was set up once by Leon Draisaitl and twice by Connor McDavid as he scored all three in six minutes in the second period. Kane has 10 goals in the playoffs to take over the NHL lead and his 13 points are good for a tie for fourth place overall in the NHL scoring race. He has fit in so nicely with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, giving the Oilers the extra scoring and toughness they need to succeed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:05 pm
  • Mike Smith returns to action and picks up the win
Mike Smith returned to action after missing 4:15 in the third and led the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

Advice: Smith appeared to be injured and left the game with 11:25 remaining in the third but returned 4:15 later. He gave up a late goal to Oliver Kylington but stopped 31 of 32 shots for the win to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Smith was sensational throughout the contest and made some amazing saves to keep the Flames off the scoresheet until Kylington's goal which was too little, too late. It was Smith's sixth win of the playoffs and he is 6-3 with a 2.55 GAA and a .933 save percentage. Game 4 is Tuesday in Edmonton. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:00 pm
  • Mike Smith leaves game after hit from Milan Lucic
Mike Smith was forced to leave Game 3 after he was hit into the end boards by Calgary's Milan Lucic.

Advice: The Oilers were leading 4-0 with 11:25 remaining when Smith played the puck behind the Edmonton net. Lucic came in and hit Smith head-first into the boards and received five for charging and a game misconduct. Needless to say, tempers flared and Smith left the ice and was replaced by Mikko Koskinen. Smith stopped all 29 Calgary shots to that point in time. It may have been the concussion spotters that pulled Smith from the contest but that remains to be seen.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 7:45 pm

Binnington won't be able to return to the series because of a lower-body injury. Akim Aliu, who is co-founder of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, tweeted on Sunday that he has spoken to Kadri about the Avalanche forward being the subject of racist attacks and threats because of the incident.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 4:39 pm

Jacob Markstrom promised to be better Sunday when the Flames are in Edmonton to take on the Oilers.

Advice: Markstrom has allowed 11 goals on only 68 shots over two games to Edmonton after allowing only 11 goals in a seven-game series win over Dallas in the opening round. “It’s 0-0 when the game starts tomorrow,” Markstrom said on Saturday. “So you can’t dwell on things. Obviously, it’s been too many goals against for me. I have to be better, and we get a chance tomorrow...Obviously, we knew it was going to be a different series. I think everyone knew that. But once again, it’s 1-1 and we’re off to Edmonton and we have to go there and take home ice back and take care of business. Everyone, myself included, we need to take another step and get back to our game to be successful.” NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:57 am
  • Nazem Kadri has two point night Saturday
Nazem Kadri scored once and added an assist in Colorado's 5-2 Game 3 win Saturday.

Advice: While his offensive output was nice, Kadri got himself in trouble once again as he collided (along with St. Louis defenseman Calle Rosen) into Blues goalie Jordan Binnington, forcing Binnington to leave with a knee injury. The Blues were obviously quite upset with Kadri who has had a few playoff suspensions in the past for his rough play. Nevertheless, Kadri has two goals and six points in seven games after an outstanding regular season when he smashed his personal bests with 59 assists and 87 points in just 71 games. • Husso surrenders four goals in Game 3 relief duty
Playing for an injured Jordan Binnington, Ville Husso allowed four goals on 23 attempts in Saturday's 5-2 Game 3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Advice: Husso did not draw the start on Saturday, but he played almost the entirety of the contest due to an early injury exit for Jordan Binnington. While the Blues led 1-0 at the time the 27-year-old entered the contest, he was unable to hold that initial advantage, yielding a game-tying goal to Logan O'Connor a short time after coming into the game. Artturi Lehkonen and Nazem Kadri would hit him up for additional goals in the second period as the Avalanche worked out to a 3-1 advantage before hanging on for the win over the remainder of regulation. The final goal on Husso's line came when Gabriel Landeskog caught him a touch too far outside his crease in the third period. Husso has now allowed 13 goals over his last three playoff appearances. Binnington had been playing stellar hockey this postseason and any extended loss could end up sinking this series for the Blues. Game 4 drops on Monday in St. Louis as the Blues look to come back from a newfound 2-1 series deficit. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 7:54 pm

  • McDavid, Matthews, Josi are Ted Lindsay finalists
Connor McDavid is a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award.

Advice: Unlike the Hart Trophy, which seeks to honor the league's most valuable player, the Ted Lindsay Award is given to the league's most outstanding player. There's often crossover between the two, but there are some subtle differences. The Ted Lindsay Award is also voted on by the NHLPA while the Hart Trophy is voted on by the writers, so winning the Ted Lindsay means earning the respect of your peers. It's an honor McDavid has claimed three times before, but he'll have stiff competition this year. McDavid did lead the league with 123 points. However, the other nominees are Auston Matthews, who had 60 goals, and Roman Josi, who led all blueliners with 96 points. NBCSportsEDGE.com May 13, 7:41 am
