• Edmonton makes Evander Kane signing official
Edmonton has announced the signing of Evander Kane to a one-year contract for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Advice: As previously reported, Kane's deal is has a base salary of $750,000 and a $625,000 signing bonus. It carries an increased cap hit of just over $2.1 million because one-year deals signed after the start of the season are subject to a unique cap hit calculation. Kane became an unrestricted free agent after his contract was terminated by the San Jose Sharks. He has been involved in plenty of off the ice incidents, but he has been productive when he has been in the lineup. Kane led the Sharks in goals (22), assists (27), points (49) and shots (194) across 56 games last season.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 11:09 pm

He did just enough in the shootout on his end to give the Oilers the victory. Koskinen owns a 15-8-1 record with a 3.18 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm

  • Connor McDavid scores in win over Predators
Connor McDavid scored in Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over the Nashville Predators.

  • Artemi Panarin picks up 3 pts in loss to CBJ
Artemi Panarin picked up one goal and two assists during Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Advice: Panarin managed to have a nice night against his former team, but it wasn't enough to give the Rangers the win. He opened the scoring just 1:29 into the game and he helped set up the 2-0 goal by Barclay Goodrow just over three minutes later. Unfortunately for New York, they allowed Columbus to score the next four goals. Panarin also registered the primary assist on Mika Zibanejad's power-play goal in the third, but it was too little too late for New York. The 30-year-old now has 12 goals and 48 points in just 39 games and he has 12 points during his six-game point streak. He's still one of the best offensive wingers in the game.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:22 pm

  • Jacob Markstrom allows 5 goals in loss vs. Blues
Jacob Markstrom allowed five goals on 28 shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Advice: After a light workload against the Blue Jackets, Markstrom was under siege against a hungry St. Louis Blues team. Semyon Varlamov allowed two goals on 29 shots during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Jacob Markstrom will start in net for Thursday's game against the St. Louis Blues.

Advice: Dan Vladar was the expected starter in this game, but Markstrom will now man the crease instead. It may be because Vladar has been in a bit of a slump as of late. Vladar is currently riding a three-game losing streak and has failed to cack a .900 save percentage in any of those three outings. Meanwhile, Markstrom has earned wins in his last two outings. He has a record of 15-9-5. Markstrom's save percentage sits at .926 and he has a GAA of 2.13. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 4:53 pm

  • Jacob Markstrom shuts out Blue Jackets in victory
Jacob Markstrom stopped all 23 shots he faced in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Advice: Markstrom spent the majority of his night simply watching the blitzing of opposing netminder Elvis Merzlikins, who faced a silly 62 shots in the contest. This was Markstrom's sixth shutout in 29 starts this season. That's the most in the NHL. He has been playing a tight crease over the second half of January, having allowed more than one goal just once in his last four starts. Showing next on the schedule for Calgary, a Thursday matchup with the Blues. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 7:29 pm

The 25-year-old also picked up a secondary assist on Leon Draisaitl's game-tying goal in the third period. McDavid finished the game with a plus-1 rating, six shots on goal, and a minor penalty in 27:28 of ice time. He has 20 goals and 56 points in 37 games this season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 9:59 pm
  • Juuse Saros stops 32 shots in win over Kraken
Juuse Saros stopped 32-of-34 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Advice: Despite allowing the first goal of the game on a shot from Jared McCann, Saros was locked in from the moment the game began. The 26-year-old goaltender stopped 11 of the 12 first-period shots that he faced. He followed that up by playing positionally sound the rest of the way and was a major reason why the Predators came away with the victory. Saros has won his last three starts and owns a 23-11-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 9:46 pm

Mathias Ekholm scored the eventual game-winning goal on a wraparound attempt just 1:16 after the 27-year-old scored in the second period. Forsberg finished the game with three shots on goal and a hit in 17:25 of ice time. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 20-of-21 shots in Monday‚Äôs 7-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Advice: Markstrom was scored on by Tyler Bozak after he deposited a back-door pass from Oskar Sundqvist to bust open the scoring for the game at the 5:10 mark of the first period. The 31-year-old net minder was perfect the rest of the way as he faced limited action while the team in front of him played almost the rest of the game in the St. Louis zone. He did however face 12 shots in the final frame, however the game was far out of reach at that point. Markstrom now has a 14-9-5 record with a 2.21 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Monday, 8:35 pm

  • Ville Husso comes up big again in win over VAN
Ville Husso barely missed out on a shutout during Sunday's 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: There is a serious goaltending conversation that needs to happen in St. Louis, as Husso came out with another big win against the Canucks in this matchup. He made 38 saves on 39 shots and finished the game with a save percentage of .974. Husso extended his win streak to five games and has consistently been putting up great individual stats. His record improves to 8-2-1. This is a great time to capitalize on his positive momentum, as the Blues have no reason to keep him from starting. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 10:32 pm
  • Cal Petersen limits Devils to two goals in victory
Cal Petersen stopped 23-of-25 shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Advice: Petersen was not quite at his sharpest to start, allowing a pair of first-period goals to Jesper Bratt. Once he settled into the game, though, he settled in quite nicely, blanking New Jersey over the final two periods of play while giving his offense time to come back from an early 2-1 deficit. While Petersen was shellacked for five goals by the Lightning in his last start, he has been playing very well on the whole in recent trips to the crease, having surrendered two or fewer goals in four of his last five outings. When next they take to the ice, the Kings will meet up with the Rangers on Monday to complete a scheduled back-to-back. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 6:55 pm
  • Blues will stick with Ville Husso on Sunday

  • Mikko Koskinen comes up big in win over Flames
Mikko Koskinen made 44 saves on 47 shots during Saturday's 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Advice: Koskinen had arguably his best performance of the season during this game, as he allowed three goals on 47 shots and posted a save percentage of .936. He faced far more pressure than his counterpart on the Calgary end of the ice and managed to put on a very solid level of play. This helped his team come out on top in the Battle of Alberta and finally brought some life into the struggling Oilers squad. After this matchup, Koskinen's record improves to 13-8-1. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 10:17 pm
  • Jacob Markstrom allows four in loss to Oilers
Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves on 30 shots during Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Advice: Markstrom's performance in this matchup highlights the inconsistency he has in his individual performances as of now. He struggles to post good save percentages continuously, and that was showcased in this game. He allowed four goals on 30 shots and ended his night with a save percentage of .867. A loss in this game drops his record to 13-9-5. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 10:13 pm
  • Juuse Saros flummoxes Red Wings on way to victory
Juuse Saros stopped 28-of-29 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Advice: Beautifully done by Saros on Saturday. He did allow an Adam Erne goal near the end of the second period -- ultimately what kept him from a shutout -- but otherwise emerged from this win without a metaphorical scratch. After struggling for a portion of January (he went through one four-game stretch yielding a combined 16 goals), Saros really looks to be closing the month out well, having allowed just three goals over his last two starts. A Tuesday matchup with the Kraken shows next on Nashville's schedule. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 9:10 pm
  • Semyon Varlamov knocked for three goals in defeat
Semyon Varlamov surrendered three goals on 23 shots in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Advice: Not many fireworks in this one. Varlamov was beat for goals by Mitchell Marner and Pierre Engvall in the first period -- Engvall's came with one second left before intermission -- and by Morgan Rielly midway through the second period. The Islanders trailed from Engvall's goal onward. On the season, Varlamov has now surrendered at least three goals in 6-of-12 appearances. He had been rolling on a streak of three consecutive starts with one goal allowed before the Maple Leafs hit him up. The Islanders will mix it up with the Flyers on Tuesday, when next they hit the ice.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 7:11 pm

  • McDavid has eight-game goalless streak at home
Connor McDavid has not scored a goal at home since Nov. 20.

Advice: That is a span of eight games since McDavid last lit the lamp in front of a home crowd. After leading the NHL in scoring with teammate Leon Draisaitl for the first three months of the season, McDavid has been caught and passed by Alex Ovechkin and Jonathan Huberdeau. It is time for McDavid to break out of his slump and a game against the Calgary Flames is a perfect time to start. He has 53 points including 19 goals in 35 games this season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 8:20 am
  • Ville Husso posts 27-save shutout Friday
Ville Husso posted a 27-save shutout during Friday's 5-0 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Joonas Korpisalo allowed four goals on 30 shots in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Advice: Korpisalo's woeful season soldiers on with another lackluster performance against the Penguins. The biggest back-breaker that the 27-year-old allowed was at the end of the first period on a shot from Sidney Crosby to tie the game after the Jackets held a lead for just 45 seconds. Korpisalo owns a 4-8-0 record with a 3.96 goals-against average and .881 save percentage. NBCSportsEDGE.com Friday, 7:37 pm
  • Boone Jenner scores in loss vs. Penguins
Boone Jenner scored in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Advice: Jenner scored late in the first period to give the Blue Jackets their only lead of the game. Unfortunately, said lead lasted only 45 seconds as Sidney Crosby found the back of the net for the first of his three goals on the evening. Gustav Nyquist also scored a shorthanded goal in the contest. Jenner finished the game with a minus-1 rating, four shots on goal, three blocks, two hits, and a minor penalty in 22:19 of ice time. The 28-year-old has 16 goals and 27 points through 38 games this season.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Friday, 7:13 pm

  • Alexandar Georgiev allows 6 goals in loss vs. NYR
Alexandar Georgiev allowed six goals on 35 shots in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Advice: Georgiev struggled from the moment the puck was dropped in this game and never found his footing. It didn't help that his team also did not show up to play in front of him as they only had 14 shots through two periods. Georgiev has a 7-6-2 record with a 2.92 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Friday, 6:57 pm
  • Joonas Korpisalo will start against Pittsburgh

  • Mikko Koskinen gets embarrassed at home vs. FLA
Mikko Koskinen allowed six goals on 28 shots in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Advice: There has been a lot of talk about the lack of quality goaltending in Edmonton during their winless streak, and that will continue for at least a couple more days now. Koskinen got utterly embarrassed by the Florida Panthers as they were able to shell him for six goals, many of which were stoppable pucks. Edmonton couldn't put one past Sergei Bobrovsky, but they needed big saves from their netminder and he simply did not deliver. The 33-year-old now has a 12-8-1 record with a 3.33 goals-against average and .895 save percentage on the season. Fantasy players should only be starting Koskinen, at this point, if they need to hit a start-quota.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Thursday, 9:11 pm
  • McDavid and Oilers get shut out, winless in last 7
Connor McDavid was held to three shots on goal in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Advice: The Oilers came out flying in this game with 17 shots on goal in the first period but could not beat the impenetrable wall that was Sergei Bobrovsky. Their best chance came in the dying moments of said period when McDavid sent a pass towards a streaking Jesse Puljujarvi who deflected the puck on goal but was robbed by the Panthers netminder. McDavid finished the game with a minus-1 rating, three shots on goal, and two hits in 20:51 of ice time. The 25-year-old has 19 goals and 34 assists in 35 games.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Thursday, 8:55 pm
  • Preds snap four-game losing skid on Thursday
Juuse Saros allowed two goals on 38 shots during Thursday's 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

Advice: The Predators managed to snap their four-game losing streak thanks to a three-goal outburst in the first period (Eeli Tolvanen, Mikael Granlund and Ryan Johansen). Saros now has a 21-11-2 record with a 2.42 goals-against-average and a .924 save percentage this season. The 26-year-old has put together a really impressive campaign. Nashville needs Saros to continue playing at this level if they're going to do some damage in the West this year.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Thursday, 8:33 pm

  • Adam Fox leads way for Rangers with three points
Adam Fox registered three points via two goals and an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Advice: Stellar work by Fox on the evening. The star defenseman was instrumental in what developed into a slick comeback win for the Rangers. Fox assisted on Ryan Reaves' first-period goal, then went on to notch goals of his own in the second and third periods. While the latter of those goals was a cheapie scored on empty net, Fox's first goal of the evening was a huge one, as it tied up the game heading into the second intermission. Overall this season, Fox has now logged a hearty seven goals and 42 points across 40 games played. He has been phenomenal of late, having turned in back-to-back multi-point efforts while scoring six total points over his last three games.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 7:39 pm
  • Cal Petersen allows 5 goals in loss vs. Lightning
Cal Petersen allowed five goals on 24 shots in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Advice: It is hard to put the blame on Petersen for the Kings coming up short in this game however they needed some saves from their goaltender that he did not give them. The 27-year-old didn't face a heavy workload on the night and struggled on Tampa Bay's few opportunities. Petersen owns a 8-6-1 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 10:40 pm
  • Jacob Markstrom stops 28 shots in win vs. Panthers
Jacob Markstrom stopped 28-of-29 shots in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers.

Advice: Markstrom bounced back from a mini two-game losing streak in a big way against a tough Panthers team. The 31-year-old stopped 16 shots before allowing the first and only goal he gave up to Sam Bennett in the second period. Markstrom was perfect the rest of the way en route to a strong showing capped off by a couple of saves in garbage time at the end of the contest. He now owns a 13-8-5 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 9:44 pm
  • Semyon Varlamov makes it through for shootout win
Semyon Varlamov stopped 31-of-34 shots during regulation and overtime in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Advice: Varlamov played a strong crease on Tuesday, especially considering that he was facing heavy pressure throughout the evening. James van Riemsdyk, Travis Konecny and Claude Giroux all scored against Varlamov in the contest, but New York weathered those storms to eventually pull out the win in shootout play. Varlamov had gone through a three-game stretch of three goals allowed prior to showing cracks in his armor against the Flyers on Tuesday. Up next on the schedule for the Islanders, a Friday matchup with the Coyotes. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 8:05 pm
