  • Devils sign blueliner Brandon Gormley
Brandon Gormley has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils.

Advice: His deal is worth $650,000 if he plays at the NHL level. Gormley skated in 26 games with Colorado last year and in 39 matches with the team's AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Rotoworld.com 44 minutes ago

  • Dmitry Orlov awaits new contract
Dmitry Orlov is expected to agree to a bridge deal with a one- or two-year term.

Advice: The restricted free agent didn't file for salary arbitration, so it's unclear when he will get a new deal. According to generalfanager.com, the Capitals have $3.45 million left in salary cap space, so he's unlikely to get much of a raise from the $2.25 million he earned last season. • Update on Ladislav Smid expected to come soon
Calgary is expecting to have a medical update on Ladislav Smid (neck) soon.

Advice: He has been suffering from on-going neck issues, which sidelined him for the last 26 games of the 2015-16 season. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:01 am
  • Flames working on Gaudreau, Monahan deals
Flames GM Brad Treliving didn't have an update to provide on new contracts for restricted free agents Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.

Advice: He was asked about Calgary's top offensive duo when netminder Brian Elliott was introduced to the media on Wednesday. "No real update there," said Treliving. "We'll continue to work away at it. We wanted to focus (Wednesday) on Brian and (Elliott's wife) Amanda and welcome them to Calgary. But we'll continue to work away at it." Talks have been ongoing during the off-season, with both players looking for long-term deals. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:51 am
  • Elliott excited to be Calgary's No. 1 goalie
Brian Elliott is anxious to start the season as Calgary's number one goalie.

Advice: He had to share the crease with Jake Allen, Ryan Miller and Jaroslav Halak when he played for the St. Louis Blues, so the veteran netminder is excited to have the number one role to himself for the 2016-17 campaign. "To have that good of numbers and not get the opportunity to be the No. 1 guy, sometimes it's frustrating," Elliott said. "But I've always believed if you worked hard, put your head down and plowed through it, opportunities will pop up for you." Those numbers may drop as a member of the Flames, but he will provide the team with better goaltending than they had last season. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:44 am
