  • Max Pacioretty scores empty-net goal
Max Pacioretty scored his second goal of the postseason in Game 6 against Ottawa.

Advice: He deposited the puck into an empty net with less than a second remaining in the third period, as the Canadiens eliminated the Senators. It was Pacioretty's first goal since Game 2 and just his second point in the first round of the playoffs. He just returned from a possible concussion after sitting out the first game of the series, so he might need some additional time before he becomes comfortable again.

  • Ryan Spooner to improve faceoffs, defense
Ryan Spooner was impressive down the stretch for Boston, but he knows he still has improvements to make.

Advice: The first item on that list is his 45.4 percent success rate on faceoffs. "I had some ups and downs on that. I had some games where I've been good, some games where I was bad," Spooner said. "And then I'd say probably, I guess, defensively (I have to improve). It's going to take some time, too. I've only played like (56 NHL games) so I'm going to try to work on that too." Spooner is a restricted free agent this summer and he should fit into the team's plans next season.

  • Pens won't trade Evgeni Malkin this summer
The Pittsburgh Penguins don't have any intention of trading Evgeni Malkin.

Advice: That might seem obvious, but it has been brought up since Pittsburgh's first round exit. The idea of trading Malkin does have some merit. After all, Pittsburgh's cap is very top-heavy and moving Malkin would be one way to free up space so the Penguins can become a more well-rounded squad. Malkin might also start to decline in value quicker than anticipated given the soon-to-be 29-year-old's lengthy injury history. That being said, it's not at all surprising that the Penguins intend to keep the two-time Art Ross Trophy winner.

  • Mike Smith aims to have better start in 2015
Mike Smith plans to change his offseason training regime in the hopes of avoiding another disastrous start.

Advice: "In the past, it's been coming into camp and working myself into game form whereas this year I'll be coming into camp on all cylinders," Smith said. He posted a 3.96 GAA and .866 save percentage in seven October starts and it wasn't until February that he started to turn his season around. By then the damage had already been done. Smith admitted that his early season struggles impacted his confidence and that might be part of the reason why his slump lasted for months.

  • James Wisniewski didn't play in first round
James Wisniewski didn't play at all in the first round.

Advice: Anaheim acquired Wisniewski from Columbus on March 2 and it's surprising to see the talented defenseman kept out of the lineup. At the same time, the Ducks swept the Jets, so there wasn't any incentive for Anaheim to make adjustments. It's likely just a matter of time before Wisniewski gets his chance.
