  • Mikael Backlund: 'Everything felt good'
Mikael Backlund (concussion) feels like if it came down to it, he might have been able to play in the World Cup final.

Advice: Of course it's moot because Sweden didn't make it that far, but it does suggest that Backlund feels capable of playing at this point if there were stakes involved as the final games were on Thursday. Instead he took part in the Flames' practice Thursday while wearing a no-contact jersey. "It was fun to be back out there with the boys, and everything felt good," said Backlund. Despite his optimism, we'd still consider him day-to-day and caution against making any assumptions about his availability given how unpredictable recoveries from a concussion can be. • Pekka Rinne expects a 'jump-start' from WCH
Pekka Rinne feels his participation in the World Cup of Hockey will lead to a stronger start to the regular season.

Advice: "I think it's going to give you a little bit (of a) jump-start," he said. "It was a great experience. Just going on the ice a little bit earlier than usual in the summer, I think it's only going to help (at) the beginning of the season. Right now, of course my focus is on being back on the ice with my teammates and getting back in game shape." Rinne and his Nashville teammates expect him to bounce back this season. • Jeremy Morin stars in preseason win
Jeremy Morin notched a goal and an assist in his first game action with Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Advice: His two-point effort came in a 2-0 preseason win over Florida. However, he will probably start the 2016-17 campaign in the minors with AHL Syracuse. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:32 am
  • Clarke MacArthur is on the road to recovery
Clarke MacArthur (concussion) intends to be back as soon as he can.

Advice: He posted a picture of himself training on his Instagram account Thursday. MacArthur said: "We have been encouraged by how my body has reacted in the days since the injury and the team has been great giving me all the time I need to rest and recover. I will continue to consult with doctors and my entire support group, but I felt it was important to let everyone know that my intentions are to work towards returning to the ice soon." MacArthur hopes to start riding the bike Friday. He suffered his fourth concussion in 18 months Sunday, so there will be no rush to get him back in before he is ready. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:19 am
  • Jakub Zboril has made progress from last year
Jakub Zboril has looked much better at this year's training camp.

Advice: "He's made big strides," said assistant coach Jay Pandolfo. "I just think it's the structure in his game, his overall attitude. He was young last year. He's in better shape. He's done a lot of things we kind of got on him for last year and he's taken it and listened and done a good job." He has been paired with Kevan Miller at camp, but he isn't expected to be on the team when the regular season begins. Rotoworld.com Today, 4:27 am
