He's taking a significant pay cut compared to his previous seven-year, $38.5 million contract, but that's appropriate given that he'll turn 38 before this deal expires. Although the 28-year-old won't make much of an offensive impact with LA, the gritty blueliner figures to plug in nicely on the Kings' third pairing.       Suter will be bought out of the last year of his contract by the Stars, Jeff Marek of Sportsnet reports Thursday.

      Advice: Suter is still on the books for the Wild after they previously bought out his contract and will now potentially be costing three different clubs cap space -- assuming he signs elsewhere when the free-agent window opens Monday. During his three-year stint with the Stars, the veteran defenseman played all 246 regular-season games, in which he tallied 12 goals and 62 assists.       Advice: DeMelo was able to get a new deal signed ahead of the start of free agency Monday, tying himself to the Jets for another four seasons. Last year, the veteran blueliner played in all 82 regular-season contests while putting up three goals, 28 assists and 83 shots. While DeMelo is never going to be a Norris Trophy candidate, he should be able to replicate that production next season, making him a decent mid-range fantasy target.       Tanev (ankle) is recovering from a tendon injury, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports Friday.

      Advice: Tanev had two goals, 19 points, 24 PIM, 45 hits and 207 blocks in 75 regular-season outings between Calgary and Dallas in 2023-24. He also recorded two assists, 30 hits and 73 blocks across 19 playoff contests with the Stars. He played in two contests after suffering the injury in Game 4 versus Edmonton, so he should be fine for the start of the 2024-25 campaign.
