  • Price gets second win in second start
Carey Price turned away 19 shots Saturday night to help the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Advice: Price battled back from a bout of the flu at the start of the season to win his first two games back in the net. Last Thursday night he stopped 27 and let two get past him in a 5-2 victory over the Coyotes. His save percentage of .905 dropped his season total slightly, but with a combined .920 in two games, he has shown plenty of fantasy relevance. 55 minutes ago
  • Howard gets 23rd career shutout
Jimmy Howard and the Red Wings shut out the San Jose Sharks for a 3-0 victory Saturday night.

Advice: Howard was stingy. His 30 saves kept the Sharks off the board completely to give him the 23rd shutout of his career. Howard has settled nicely into his role as the backup goalie behind Petr Mrazek and his relaxed attitude is showing up between the pipes. This is Howard’s second win of the season, which accounts for half of the Red Wings total. Today, 7:09 pm
  • Vesey gets two in win over Caps
Jimmy Vesey scored back-to-back goals in the second to give the New York Rangers a 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals Saturday night.

Advice: Vesey’s goals were the tying shot as well as the game winner. The Caps established an early lead with a pair of goals in the first period. Brandon Pirri put the Rangers on the board early in the second, but it was rookie Vesey that took control with the tying goal at the 11:22 minute mark and the game winner at 14:22. Rich Nash completed the scoring with an empty net goal with six seconds remaining in the game. Vesey now has three goals in five games during his first season of play. Today, 6:58 pm
  • Skille, Biego, Tramkin out vs Kings on Sat
Jack Skille, Alex Biega and Nikita Tryamkin will each be scratched from Saturday's match with the Kings.

Advice: Of the three only Skille has seen any game action so far this season, and he's yet to make an impact on the stat sheet. We wouldn't expect much from any of them, unfortunately. Today, 5:49 pm
  • Colton Sissons out sick Sat vs Pittsburgh
Colton Sissons will not play in Saturday's match with Pittsburgh due to illness.

Advice: It appears that Sissons has also fallen prey to food poisoning. Fortunately it doesn't usually take much time to pass, so expect him to return soon. Today, 5:06 pm
  • Lindell, Oleksiak out vs Columbus on Saturday
Esa Lindell and Jamie Oleksiak will be scratched against Columbus on Saturday night.

Advice: With no points in four combined games, and little else to show for their efforts, Lindell and Olekisak will probably not figure to be much of a fantasy asset until further notice. Today, 3:54 pm
  • Athanasiou tags in for Abdelkader vs San Jose
In a late lineup change, Andreas Athanasiou will tag in for Justin Abedelkader (LBI) against San Jose on Saturday night.

Advice: Here's another glorious opportunity for the youngster to make his mark on the team. Athanasiou has no points in three games so far this season. Today, 3:51 pm
  • Athanasiou, Ouellet out vs San Jose on Sat
Andreas Athanasiou and Xavier Ouellet will both watch Saturday's match against San Jose from the press box.

Advice: Athanasiou has no points in three games this season while averaging just 11:25 per night. While Ouellet has a point in four games and seeing a few more minutes per, both are off to disappointing starts to say the least. However should either get hot, don't be surprised if they're permanent additions to the lineup. Today, 2:44 pm
  • Griffith, Corrado, Marincin out vs Chicago
Seth Griffith, Frank Corrado and Martin Marincin will each be scratched against Chicago on Saturday night.

Advice: Unfortunately, there isn't much fantasy talent between them as neither Griffith nor Corrado appear to be able to crack the lineup and Marincin doesn't compile many counting stats. Today, 2:27 pm
  • Jake Allen will face Calgary on Saturday
Jake Allen will face Calgary on Saturday night.

Advice: Allen has seen just eight pucks beat him through the first four games and 98 shots combined. Not the greatest save percentage, but only two goals against on average is about as good as it gets. Today, 1:56 pm
  • Braden Holtby will face the Rangers on Sat
Braden Holtby will face the Rangers on Saturday night.

Advice: Three games, five goals against, two wins. That's about as good as it gets, and you know what they say about hot goalies, they win games. Expect more of the same from Holtby, even against a nemesis like the Rangers. Today, 12:00 pm
  • Jimmy Howard will face San Jose on Saturday
Jimmy Howard will face San Jose on Saturday night.

Advice: After leading the Red Wings to a victory over the Rangers, turning 32 of 33 shots aside including a handful of breakaways, it makes sense that Howard will get another start tonight. Still, we expect Petr Mrazek to be the primary netminder in Detroit. Today, 11:51 am
  • Martin Jones will face Detroit on Saturday
Martin Jones will face Detroit on Saturday night.

Advice: Jones is off to an underwhelming start through four games, allowing 11 goals on 97 combined shots. The Red Wings have been a surprise in the early goings, but we'd still count on Jones and the Sharks to right the ship starting tonight. Today, 11:43 am
  • Carey Price will face Boston on Saturday
Carey Price will face Boston on Saturday night.

Advice: Price had a quality season debut last night, turning away 27 shots in the 5-2 win over Arizona. With the Bruins missing Tuukka Rask in their net, Price looks like an even stronger start tonight. Today, 11:06 am
  • Ducks recall Michael Sgarbossa from AHL
The Anaheim Ducks have recalled Michael Sgarbossa from AHL San Diego.

Advice: Here's another prime opportunity for the 24-year-old, who posted 44 points in 62 games for the Gulls last season. The Ducks are in as much need as anyone for someone to be a depth impact player, so if Sgarbossa gets hot, feel free to ride the wave. Today, 10:50 am
  • Kari Lehtonen expected to start on Sat
Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the start in Saturday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Advice: Lehtonen made 35 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, but it sounds like the Stars will stick with him. He has a 7-5-1 record with a 2.03 goals-against-average and a .934 save percentage against the Blue Jackets in his career. Today, 5:52 am
  • FLA not sure Jussi Jokinen will play on Sat
Jussi Jokinen didn't take part in Florida's practice on Friday.

Advice: Jokinen left Thursday's game against Washington after being clipped with a high-stick, but he's also been dealing with a knee issue since the World Cup. Head coach Gerard Gallant said the team isn't sure if Jokinen will play on Saturday night. Today, 5:02 am
  • Michael Stone was activated from the IL on Friday October 21. Yesterday, 10:33 pm
  • Michael Stone warming up for Coyotes
It looks like defenseman Michael Stone will be returning to the Arizona Coyotes' lineup Friday night.

Advice: He is on the ice for the Coyotes' warmup before their game against the New York Islanders. Stone has missed all previous games this season because of a knee injury. He had 36 points and 62 penalty minutes in 75 games last season. Yesterday, 3:40 pm
  • Andreas Athanasiou a healthy scratch tonight
Andreas Athanasiou will be a healthy scratch for the Red Wings against Nashville in Detroit tonight.

Advice: Ed Ott will replace Athanasiou. Also sitting out tonight as a healthy scratch for Detroit will be Xavier Ouellet. Yesterday, 3:34 pm
  • Jake Allen allows two goals and takes loss
Jake Allen allowed two goals on 22 shots and took the loss in Edmonton on Thursday night.

Advice: The third goal was an empty net goal. After picking up wins over Nashville and Chicago in his first two starts, Allen has failed to record wins against the Oilers and Canucks on the road. Go figure. He still has a strong 1.99 goals against average and .909 save percentage in four starts. Allen will likely get the start in Calgary on Saturday night. Thursday, 11:17 pm
  • Kari Lehtonen makes 35 saves in OTL
Kari Lehtonen stopped 35 of 39 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Advice: After stopped 27 of 28 shots in a win over the Predators on Tuesday, the Stars went back to Lehtonen tonight. Dallas has a good team, but their goaltending situation is a giant question mark. Unless one of Lehtonen or Antti Niemi get injured, their fantasy values will be extremely limited. Lehtonen has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.36 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage this season. Thursday, 9:23 pm
  • Carey Price wins regular season debut
Carey Price stopped 27 of 29 shots in Montreal's 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

Advice: This was the first time Price suited up for the Canadiens in almost 11 months. He missed most of last season because of a knee injury and he sat out the first three games of this year because of the flu. Price seemed calm and confident throughout this game and he should only get better as he plays more often. If he stays healthy, he'll be a top-two fantasy option at his position. Thursday, 8:49 pm
  • Braden Holtby makes 26 saves in win
Braden Holtby stopped 26 of 28 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers.

Advice: Holtby came into the season as a top-two fantasy goaltender and he hasn't disappointed. The Caps goalie has started three of Washington's first four games and hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of those contests. Holtby has a 2-0-1 record with a sparkling 1.63 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage this season. Thursday, 8:13 pm
  • Martin Jones allows three goals in loss
Martin Jones gave up three goals on 20 shots in San Jose's 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Advice: Jones entered the third period with a 2-0 lead, but the Penguins managed to beat him three times in the final frame. The Sharks goaltender has dropped back-to-back starts and has allowed eight goals in those contests. He has a 2-2-0 record with a 2.79 goals-against-average and a .887 save percentage. Those are disappointing numbers, but we're just five games into the season. There's plenty of time for him to turn this around. Thursday, 7:55 pm
  • Jake Allen starts vs Oilers on Thursday
Jake Allen will get the start against the Oilers on Thursday night.

Advice: Allen has been exactly what the Blues have wanted out of the young starter, allowing just six goals in three games while earning five out of six standings points. Edmonton will prove to be another fine test for both him, and the Blues. Thursday, 3:09 pm
  • Braden Holtby in net vs Panthers on Thursday
Braden Holtby will be in net against the Panthers on Thursday night.

Advice: The Holtbeast is in fine form through his first two games of the season, allowing just three goals on 52 combined shots. Holtby is 7-0-1 in eight career games against Florida, allowing just 19 goals against making him an even easier start. Thursday, 2:58 pm
  • Martin Jones in net vs Pittsburgh on Thursday
Martin Jones will be in net against Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Advice: Three games and eight goals against on 77 shots isn't a great start, and facing the Penguins doesn't inspire much confidence either. But Jones has traditionally played them well, just 11 goals in five career regular season games and of course his excellence in the Cup Final. You can pass on this one if you'd like, but we wouldn't fret it either. Thursday, 2:55 pm
  • Carey Price (flu) will start on Thursday
Carey Price (flu) will make his season debut on Thursday.

Advice: Price wasn't available for Montreal's first three games because he was dealing with a bad flu. Montreal's Al Montoya was strong in his absence, but Price is one of the best goaltenders in the game and him being healthy will likely be critical for the Canadiens this season. Price was limited to just 12 games last season. Thursday, 8:58 am
  • Kari Lehtonen will probably start Thursday
Kari Lehtonen is the probable starter for the Stars Thursday night.

Advice: Lehtonen was the first netminder off the ice following Dallas' morning skate. He has kicked off the campaign on a high note with a 1.30 GAA and .951 save percentage in two games. Thursday, 8:34 am
  • Jimmy Howard feels more comfortable as backup
Jimmy Howard understands this season that Petr Mrazek is the top goalie and he feels more comfortable being the backup.

Advice: "I think I know how to handle the situation a lot better now," Howard said. "Last year I didn't quite understand how to be the backup, never had been it before. So I fully understand the role now and how to stay mentally sharp in between starts." He stopped 32 of 33 shots in a 2-1 win over the Rangers on Wednesday in his first start of the season. Thursday, 4:43 am
  • Jimmy Howard dominant in win over NYR
Jimmy Howard turned aside 32 of 33 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Advice: What a performance by Howard, as he was the backbone of tonight's victory for Detroit. The only shot that beat him was a Mike Zibanejad deflection in front of the net in the first period. Howard has only played in one of Detroit's first four games, but that might change if he keeps turning in performances like this one. He'll enter his next start with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .970 save percentage. Wednesday, 8:13 pm
  • Carey Price (flu) hopes to play Thursday
Carey Price (flu) practiced again on Wednesday and hopes to play on Thursday night.

Advice: "I just had a flu. It lasted a little bit longer than I expected, but I feel fine now," said Price. "I'd like to [play on Thursday night]. I'll see how I feel [on Thursday] and take it from there." He lost seven or eight pounds due to the illness and is working on gaining back his strength. There also isn't a rush to get him back with Al Montoya playing well during his absence. Wednesday, 1:41 pm
  • Jimmy Howard starts Wednesday vs. NYR
Jimmy Howard will be in goal for Wednesday's match versus the New York Rangers.

Advice: This will be Howard's first start of the season. He went 14-14-5 last year with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. The Rangers currently lead the league with 4.67 goals for per game. Wednesday, 9:50 am
  • Carey Price (flu) could be ready for Thursday
Carey Price (flu) practiced with his teammates Tuesday.

Advice: He was also on the ice in street clothes to wave to the fans at Montreal's home opener, so it looks like he could be available for Thursday's game versus Arizona. Price has been absent for the first three games of the year because of the flu. Wednesday, 7:47 am
  • Jimmy Vesey is getting comfortable in NHL
Jimmy Vesey is feeling more comfortable now that he has a few NHL games under his belt.

Advice: "Having the puck in the offensive zone, I’m not really hesitant to make a mistake," Vesey said. "Sometimes, in the beginning, you just try not to make a mistake and play it safe. I’m holding on to it more, making more plays, and I think a lot of that has come from continuing to develop chemistry with my linemates." He scored his first career goal and point on Monday. Wednesday, 5:49 am
  • Jake Allen respectable in loss to Canucks
Jake Allen faced 26 shots and turned away all but two in the 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday night.

Advice: Allen and the Blues sent the game into overtime and narrowly missed winning their fourth straight game to open the season. Had they done so, it would have been only the second time in franchise history they accomplished the feat. Allen had two of the previous three wins. While Allen lost Tuesday night, he had a great save percentage of .923 that lifted his season total to .909. Tuesday, 10:36 pm
  • Kari Lehtonen strong in win over Preds
Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 of 28 shots in Dallas' 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.

Advice: Lehtonen made a relief apperance in Saturday's game against Colorado, but tonight was his first start of the regular season. The only goal Lehtonen allowed was scored on the power play. Last season, the Stars often stuck with the goaltender who won the previous game, so it wouldn't be shocking to see Lehtonen start over Antti Niemi in the next contest. Tuesday, 8:50 pm
  • Jake Allen expected to start vs. Canucks
Jake Allen is expected to get the start in Tuesday's game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: Allen got the night off on Saturday, so he should be fresh for tonight's game. He'll continue to be one of the best fantasy options at his position. Allen has a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage in 2016-17. Tuesday, 6:40 pm
  • Lindell, Oleksiak set to play Tuesday vs. NSH
Esa Lindell will play his first game of the year on Tuesday against Nashville.

Advice: He was a healthy scratch for the first two games of the season. Jamie Oleksiak will also dress on Tuesday after sitting for two straight contests, while Jordie Benn and Patrik Nemeth are expected to be scratched. Tuesday, 1:10 pm
  • Kari Lehtonen will face Preds Tuesday night
Kari Lehtonen will get his first start of the season on Tuesday.

Advice: He turned aside 12 of the 13 shots he faced in relief against Colorado on Saturday. Lehtonen owns a 9-8-1 record against Nashville in his career with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. Tuesday, 1:07 pm
  • Sissons brings 2-way presence to 4th line
Colton Sissons has fit in nicely on the fourth line.

Advice: "He's another player that I could call extremely smart," coach Peter Laviolette said. "He's a good two-way player. ... He's new at this role, so I think he's going to learn a lot in the next few years about his game in the National Hockey League. I wouldn't say he's just a defensive player. I think he's got some good skill and some good upside with his offense as well." Sissons is playing in his first full season as Nashville's fourth-line center. Tuesday, 12:20 pm
  • Jack Skille set to make season debut
Jack Skille is slated to make his Vancouver debut on Tuesday versus St. Louis.

Advice: He skated alongside Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi during the morning session. Skille is expected to bump Jake Virtanen from the lineup. Tuesday, 11:15 am
  • Sharks' G Martin Jones loses first game
San Jose goalie Martin Jones lost his first game of the season Monday night as he and the Sharks dropped a 7-4 decision against the Rangers in New York.

Advice: Jones made 22 saves on 27 shots but the Sharks never led in this one. Jones is now 2-1-0, with a goals-against average of 2.68. His save percentage is .896. Monday, 8:00 pm
  • Carey Price (flu) will sit again on Tuesday
Carey Price (flu) isn't ready to play on Tuesday.

Advice: However, he got back on the ice for the first time Monday since he was diagnosed with a severe case of the flu on Oct. 10. He ran some drills with goaltending coach Stephane Waite, but he didn't stay for Montreal's team skate. Tuesday's home opener will be his third straight contest on the sidelines and he remains day-to-day. Monday, 9:46 am
  • Martin Jones to start Monday vs. Rangers
Martin Jones will get the call for San Jose on Monday night against the Rangers.

Advice: Jones has been superb after two games this season. He has a 2-0-0 record with a sparkling 1.50 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage. Monday, 9:01 am
  • Expect Kari Lehtonen to start in Week 2
After Antti Niemi started both of Dallas first two games, expect Kari Lehtonen to get his fair share of starts starting in the second week.

Advice: Dallas is in Nashville on Tuesday, and home to LA and Columbus on Thursday and Saturday respectively. Niemi meanwhile has allowed seven goals in two games, and has already been pulled once. Lehtonen's next time to shine is coming up real soon. Sunday, 11:39 am
  • Holtby blocks 21 in win over Islanders
Braden Holtby stopped 21 shots and let one past in the Washington Capitals 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders Saturday night.

Advice: Holtby had a great season with the Caps last year, winning 48 games in 66 efforts. His save percentage of .922 will be buoyed by Saturday night’s .955. ''Every game you need different guys to step up, and that line was the reason we won tonight,'' said Holtby. ''They created the majority of our good chances.'' Saturday, 8:28 pm
  • Jones stop 26 in Sharks win
Martin Jones stopped 26 of 28 shots Saturday night in the San Jose Sharks 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets

Advice: This was Jones’ second win of the season. He stopped 21 shots against the LA Kings Wednesday night, giving him a combined save percentage of .940. The Sharks will take on the Rangers for their next outing Monday, Oct. 17th. Saturday, 7:01 pm
  • Price unsure if he'll practice on Monday
Carey Price is not sure that he'll be able to practice on Monday due to the flu.

Advice: If he doesn't practice then Al Montoya will almost certainly take Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh. The Canadiens then play Arizona on Thursday and Boston on Saturday. At this rate, it'll be surprising if Price sees more than one game next week. Saturday, 3:54 pm
  • Braden Holtby in net vs Islanders on Saturday
Braden Holtby will be in net against the Islanders on Saturday night.

Advice: As you know, Holtby tends to dominate everyone. To wit, he's 10-1-3 with a .929 save percentage and just 32 goals against in 14 games against the team in Brooklyn. With Thomas Greiss tending the other net, we'd feel even more confident in The Beast's abilities. Saturday, 11:35 am
  • Martin Jones in net vs Columbus on Saturday
Martin Jones will be in net against Columbus on Saturday night.

Advice: Perhaps ironically, Jones has stopped just 46 of 55 combined shots he's seen from the Blue Jackets over his two games. He allowed seven even-strength goals and two shorties. Anything can happen in a given game, but we'd bet that Jones puts forth a quality game and gets off the schneid. Saturday, 10:43 am
  • Andreas Athanasiou will play on top line
Andreas Athanasiou will play on Detroit's top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Frans Nielsen on Saturday night.

Advice: Athanasiou was a healthy scratch in Detroit's 6-4 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday, but he'll get a golden opportunity to prove his worth against the Panthers tonight. "We just want to keep, without totally changing things, we want to keep tinkering and trying to just find the best combinations," coach Jeff Blashill said. "We think we’ve got good depth up front. Let’s tinker as we need to tinker to get the most out of every line." The 22-year-old had nine goals and 14 points in 37 NHL games last season. Saturday, 6:03 am
  • Carey Price remains out with bad flu
Carey Price is still battling a severe case of the flu.

Advice: Price missed Thursday's game and is resting at home while the Canadiens are scheduled to play in Ottawa on Saturday. He's on antibotics and has a fever. Friday, 11:48 am
  • Carey Price still not well enough to travel
Carey Price (flu) will not join his teammates for a Friday afternoon practice in Ottawa.

Advice: He isn't expected to be available for Saturday's match versus the Senators, so Al Montoya will get the nod again. Price hasn't practiced since last Sunday because of the flu. Friday, 5:46 am
  • Braden Holtby drops season opener to PIT
Braden Holtby allowed two goals on 30 shots in Thursday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Advice: Holtby couldn't be faulted on either of Pittsburgh's goals, as Patric Hornqvist scored on a deflection and Evgeni Malkin found the back of the net after Washington turned the puck over deep in their own zone. Despite tonight's loss, expect Holtby to bounce back in a big way going forward. He'll be a top three fantasy option at his position throughout the 2016-17 season. Thursday, 9:53 pm
  • Jake Allen improves to 2-0 with win over MIN
Jake Allen stopped 19 of 21 shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Advice: This was Allen's second start in two nights and he managed to hold the Blackhawks and Wild to just four goals combined. With Brian Elliott gone, Allen will likely get more starts in 2016-17. The 26-year-old has a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage this season. Thursday, 9:16 pm
  • Lindell, McKenzie out vs Ducks in opener
Esa Lindell and Curtis McKenzie will each be scratched against the Ducks for Thursday's opener.

Advice: The 22-year-old Lindell posted 14 goals and 42 points in 73 games with AHL Texas last season, suggesting he won't need much of an opportunity to crack Dallas' top-six. McKenzie meanwhile, now 25-years-old, has had trouble translating his talents to the NHL having scoring just five points in 39 games. Thursday, 4:44 pm
  • Jake Allen will again be in net Thurs vs Wild
Jake Allen will once again be in net for St. Louis against Minnesota on Thursday.

Advice: Allen wasn't all that impressive last night against Chicago, stopping 17 of 19 shots. Perhaps it was just opening-night jitters. It's his crease now in The Loo, so expect him to have plenty of rope. Thursday, 4:15 pm
  • Athanasiou, Sproul out vs Tampa Bay in opener
Andreas Athanasiou and Ryan Sproul will be scratched for Thursday's opener against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Athanasiou posted 14 points in 37 games during his first lap around the League last season, and big things are expected. Which is why it's so curious that the 22-year-old isn't playing tonight. Be that as it may, if he has a quality first month then feel free to hop aboard his train. Thursday, 3:52 pm
  • Braden Holtby in net vs Penguins for opener
Braden Holtby will be in net against the Penguins for Thursday's opener.

Advice: And here we are, game first in Holbty's assault on more record books. Or at least of the season. Holtby approached and set all kinds of goalie records the last two seasons, including starting in 73 games two seasons ago and winning 48 games last campaign. Expect more great things from the affectionately named Holtbeast. Thursday, 3:20 pm
  • Canucks sign Jack Skille to one-year deal
The Vancouver Canucks have inked Jack Skille to a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Advice: Skille joined the Canucks' training camp on a tryout basis and managed to stick with the team. He's projected to serve as a bottom-six forward with Vancouver. Thursday, 11:32 am
  • After early fumble, Jones finishes strong
Martin Jones kept 21 shots out of net in the Sharks 2-1 Victory over Kings.

Advice: After failing to block a power play shot by the LA Kings’ Tyler Toffoli early in the first, Jones was perfect for the rest of the night. He ended the contest with a save percentage of .995. That made him not only the best goalie in this West Coast match up, but the best of all Wednesday’s opening games. Thursday, 12:03 am
  • Jake Allen makes 17 saves in win over 'Hawks
Jake Allen stopped 17 of 19 shots in St. Louis' 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Advice: For the first time in his NHL career, Allen will clearly be the number one goaltender on the Blues roster. He's served as the starter before, but he's had capable starter Brian Elliott behind him. With Elliott gone, Allen will have a chance to establish himself as one of the premiere goalies in the league. The 26-year-old will enter his next start with a 1-0-0 record and an .895 save percentage. He's a must-start for fantasy owners on most nights. Wednesday, 8:05 pm
  • Martin Jones will start opener vs. Kings
Martin Jones will be in the crease for Wednesday's opener against Los Angeles.

Advice: He has posted a 3-1-1 record with a 2.57 GAA and a .913 save percentage in his career versus the Kings. Jones is looking to solidify his spot as a top NHL netminder this season and if he does then the Sharks will be a tough team to beat. Wednesday, 11:29 am
  • Andreas Athanasiou grabs last spot on DRW
Andreas Athanasiou edged out Anthony Mantha for a roster spot thanks to his efforts from last season.

Advice: "That put him in a spot, coming into camp, where he was more established as a player," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I thought they had almost even camps. When I said going into camp, 'You've got to make us better, you've got to knock other guys out of the box' -- in the end, I thought they played the same. So the edge goes to AA." Athansiou contributed nine goals and 14 points in 37 matches with the Red Wings last season. Wednesday, 7:04 am
  • Vancouver offers Jack Skille a contract
The Vancouver Canucks have offered Jack Skille a contract.

Advice: Skille was attending the Canucks' training camp on a tryout basis. If he agrees to Vancouver's terms then it looks like he'll open the season on the Canucks' roster. He had eight goals and 14 points in 74 games with the Colorado Avalanche in 2015-16. Wednesday, 6:57 am
