Advice: Giroux is on a five-game point streak. That's brought him up to seven assists in six contests this season. 30 minutes ago
  • Pavel Zacha's playing on the first line
Pavel Zacha is playing on the Devils' top line with Taylor Hall.

Advice: Kyle Palmieri will probably be the third member of that unit on Tuesday. In addition to playing on the first line, Zacha might also get some power-play ice time. So while Zacha has no goals and an assist through five games, he has an opportunity to start heating up. 59 minutes ago
  • Hynes: Speers assignment good for development
Devils coach John Hynes feels sending Blake Speers back to the OHL was best for his development.

Advice: Speers had no points in three games with the Devils. "Blake really made a statement for himself from rookie camp to training camp and even in the first couple of games," Hynes said. "He showed he can play at this pace, he’s very smart, good instincts, knows how to play without the puck very very well. So therefore as a young player you get opportunities. I just think over the course of, now that the regular season has started, we wanted to give him a look, whether that was in practice or in some games, to see when the level does get turned up from preseason, would he be able to be effective offensively and we just think it’s probably best for his development to go back. He’s not going to lose the attention to detail that he plays with and the instincts but it is good for him to go back to juniors. He’s going to be a leader on his team, be able to play the right way." He'll be someone to keep an eye on during training camp next year. Today, 5:56 am
  • Micheal Ferland has 3 points in 7 games
Micheal Ferland recorded an assist in a 3-2 shootout win over Chicago on Monday.

  • Troy Brouwer gets an assist on Monday

  • Jamie McGinn (UBI) might be activated Tuesday
Jamie McGinn (upper body) might be activated prior to Tuesday's game.

Advice: The Coyotes put Jamie McBain on waivers Monday, so there will be a roster spot free for McGinn if he's ready. McGinn took part in Monday's practice and skated on a line with Jordan Martinook and Anthony Duclair. Today, 5:32 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Duclair doesn't have any points in 2016-17
Anthony Duclair has no points and a minus-four rating in his first five games of 2016-17.

Advice: Duclair is coming off a solid rookie campaign where he scored 20 goals and 44 points in 81 games. "Duclair, he had a real high shooting percentage last year that everything he shot really went in the net," coach Dave Tippett said. "But now the concerning thing for me now is he hasn’t gotten as near as many chances as he did last year. So he’s gotta continue to work at his game to get his game to a level where he can help us." Regarding that high shooting percentage, Duclair didn't get a lot of shots last season (105) and hasn't this season either (seven). It's too early to say if Duclair is going to endure a sophomore slump. Today, 5:30 am
  • Max Domi is off to a sluggish start
Max Domi has gotten off to a slow start with no goals and two assists in five games.

Advice: After recording 52 points as a rookie, the Coyotes are hoping that Domi will be able to take another step forward in 2016-17. "Sometimes it doesn’t go in and if you’re not getting opportunities and have chances, then that’s when you start getting worried," Domi said. "But I’m definitely getting chances, definitely getting opportunities. It’s just capitalizing on them." There's always a concern that players will endure a sophomore slump, but it's too early to say if that's Domi's fate. It wouldn't be surprising to see him score his first goal of 2016-17 in the near future. Today, 5:27 am
  • Torrey Mitchell (UBI) plays Monday
Torrey Mitchell (upper body) was able to play on Monday.

Advice: Mitchell left Saturday's game after sustaining an ailment, but he didn't end up missing a full contest due to the problem. He had no points and a minus-one rating in 13:37 minutes of ice time Monday night. Yesterday, 10:41 pm
  • Sam Bennett picks up first goal of the season
Sam Bennett scored his first goal of the season during Monday's 3-2 shoot-out win over Chicago.

Advice: Bennett now has points in consecutive games, giving him three for the year. Much is expected of the youngster, who is now up to 19 goals and 40 points through the first 85 games of his career. Yesterday, 9:12 pm
  • Sean Monahan scores third goal of the season
Sean Monahan scored his third goal of the season, his second on the power play, during Monday's 3-2 shoot-out win over Chicago.

Advice: It's been a tough start to the season for Calgary's top center, who still sits without any assists through seven games thus far. Still, the name of the game is goal scoring, so there shouldn't be too much concern... yet. Yesterday, 9:11 pm
  • Versteeg lifts Flames past Hawks in shoot-out
Kris Versteeg put the dagger in his old club with the shoot-out winner on Monday night.

Advice: The Flames and Blackhawks had gone 0-13 to Versteeg's turn, who would bury a pretty shot for the game's only such marker. The veteran winger blocked a shot during his 13:49 of ice time, so we wouldn't take this as a sign of things to come. Yesterday, 9:09 pm
  • Patrick Kane stays hot with another goal
Patrick Kane kept up his scoring ways, tallying his second goal of the season during Monday's 3-2 shoot-out loss to Calgary.

Advice: Well it's not like he's been held off the board much. Kane has eight points in seven games thus far, and looks well on his well to competing for another couple pieces of hardware. Yesterday, 9:04 pm
  • Gallagher extends point streak to three games
Brendan Gallagher extended his point streak to three games with a power play goal in Monday's 3-1 win over Philadelphia.

The Dallas Stars have placed Ales Hemsky (groin) on injured reserve.

    Injured Reserve
  • Jeff Skinner (undisclosed) is day-to-day
Jeff Skinner missed Monday's practice due to an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Skinner is regarded as day-to-day, but the Hurricanes don't have the results of his medical testing yet so we might get a firmer timetable and a better understanding of what's bothering him later. What Carolina has already revealed is that Skinner is not dealing with a concussion, which is nice to know given that he does have a history there. Yesterday, 1:08 pm
  • Jori Lehtera (UBI) skates Monday morning
Jori Lehtera (upper body) was on the ice by himself Monday morning.

Advice: Lehtera has missed three straight contests. he remains day-to-day and we wouldn't count on him playing Tuesday. Yesterday, 11:31 am
  • Jiri Hudler (illness) won't return Tuesday
Jiri Hudler (illness) will not be ready to return Tuesday.

Advice: It will be Hudler's fourth straight game on the sidelines. The good news is that he has resumed skating. Yesterday, 10:47 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Ales Hemsky (groin) won't play Tuesday
Ales Hemsky has re-injured his groin.

Advice: Hemsky will miss Tuesday's game as a result. He's only been able to play in one game this season. Yesterday, 10:46 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Jason Spezza questionable for Tuesday's game
Jason Spezza is dealing with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Spezza's issue didn't just crop up, but the condition has been irritated. Due to that, he's now questionable for Tuesday's game. He has two goals and three points in five games this season. Yesterday, 10:45 am
  • Maple Leafs claim Ben Smith
The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed Ben Smith off of waivers.

Advice: Smith had no points and a minus-two rating in four games with Colorado. The veteran forward will likely get a fourth line role in Toronto. Yesterday, 9:36 am
  • Artem Anisimov gets the 2nd star of the week
Artem Anisimov is the NHL's second star of the week.

Advice: Anisimov has been on fire lately with four goals and seven points in three games last week. That gives him eight points in six contests this season. He's in a four-way tie for fourth place in the scoring race at this very early stage of the campaign. Yesterday, 9:27 am
  • Devils send Blake Speers to the OHL
The New Jersey Devils have returned Blake Speers to the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Advice: Speers recorded no points in three games with New Jersey. He had 74 points and 42 penalty minutes in 68 OHL contests last season. Yesterday, 8:45 am
  • Nail Yakupov off to a solid start with Blues
So far the decision by the St. Louis Blues to acquire Nail Yakupov has worked out.

Advice: Yakupov was a low-risk pickup given that he cost them a relatively minor prospect in Zachary Pochiro and a conditional pick that will either be in the second or third round. After his rough campaigns in Edmonton though, there was no guarantee that he'd provide a decent return at even that price, but so far he's done plenty with two goals and four points in six games. What makes it more impressive is that he's been doing that while primarily playing on the third line and averaging a modest 11:07 minutes per game. It's too early to call this a comeback, but Yakupov is giving hope to the idea that a fresh start is what he needed. Yesterday, 8:01 am
  • Matt Moulson practices on Sabres' top line
Matt Moulson skated on the top line during Sunday's practice.

Advice: Moulson's linemates were Ryan O’Reilly and Kyle Okposo. It's quite the step up from when training camp started and Moulson was working on the fourth unit. He has two goals in four games this season despite averaging just 12:42 minutes per game. We'd caution against getting to excited as this might prove to be a short-term promotion, but it will be interesting to see how he does on Tuesday. Yesterday, 6:55 am
  • Pavel Buchnevich placed on injured reserve
The New York Rangers have placed Pavel Buchnevich (back) on injured reserve.

Advice: The Russian forward has missed the lat four games with back spasms so the move was retroactive and he can now come off it at any time. Buchnevich had an assist in two games thus far and is being counted upon to be a top-six forward for the Rangers once he returns to the lineup. Yesterday, 5:36 am
    Injured Reserve
  • CLG have trouble finding winger for Monahan
The Calgary Flames are having trouble finding a fit for the duo of Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.

Advice: The Flames best two forwards have gone through six wingers in an attempt to find some chemistry and the season is only six games old. Troy Brouwer, Alex Chiasson, Michael Frolik, Kris Versteeg, Micheal Ferland and Matthew Tkachuk have all tried but failed so far. Monahan has two goals and a minus-six rating while Johnny Hockey has a goal and two helpers with a minus-seven rating. The Flames better find someone quickly or their season could be in danger. Yesterday, 4:46 am
  • Jamie McGinn on track to return Tuesday
Jamie McGinn appears on track to return to the lineup on Tuesday against New Jersey, per coach Dave Tippett.

Advice: Nothing is certain just yet, as the veteran forward needs to go through a couple more practices first. But should he do so, he'll be set to begin his time with Arizona. Sunday, 12:14 pm
    Injured Reserve
  • Avalanche waive Ben Smith
The Colorado Avalanche waived Ben Smith.

Advice: Originally drafted in 2008 in the sixth round by Chicago, Smith has managed just 201 career NHL games. Suffice it to say, he offers little in fantasy. Sunday, 9:32 am
  • Hemsky started Saturday on top line
Ales Hemsky started Saturday night's game against Columbus on the Stars' top line.

Advice: Hemsky began the game alongside Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, but with the Stars playing terribly, Dallas coach Lindy Ruff shuffled his lines in the second and third periods. If Hemsky does get another chance, especially while Partrick Eaves and Patrick Sharp are out, he may be worth a waiver claim. Sunday, 9:18 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Torey Mitchell exits Saturday's game with UBI
Torey Mitchell left Saturday night's 4-2 win over the Bruins in the third period with an upper-body injury.

Advice: He took a high stick from David Krejci and was cut above the eye and needed stitches to close the cut. Consider Mitchell day-to-day for now, although we suspect he will be OK for the Habs' next contest. Sunday, 6:57 am
  • Claude Giroux has an assist Saturday
Claude Giroux had an assist in 19:05 minutes of action Saturday.

Advice: Giroux missed the morning skate Saturday but coach Dave Hakstol said he would play later that evening and he did. Giroux has yet to find the back of the net this season but does have six assists in five games. He is a must-play in all facets of fantasy hockey. Sunday, 6:54 am
  • Kris Versteeg pops a couple in 6-4 loss
Kris Versteeg scored his first two goals of the season Saturday.

Advice: Versteeg started the season on the top line with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau but was quickly moved down the depth chart this week and now finds himself on the wing with Sam Bennett and Troy Brouwer. While Versteeg has had some nice NHL seasons, he should remain on the waiver wire for now. Sunday, 3:57 am
  • Sam Bennett, Kris Versteeg produce in loss
Sam Bennett (two assists) and Kris Versteeg (two goals) helped the Calgary Flames get within striking distance in an eventual 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Advice: Many expect Bennett to break out in 2016-17, so a night like this is a very good sign. Meanwhile, Versteeg is the type of player who produces nice totals, even without fanfare (or easy access to contracts). Saturday, 10:09 pm
  • Ales Hemsky returns to Stars vs CBJ on Sat
The Dallas Stars have activated Ales Hemsky off of I/R for Saturday's match with Columbus.

Advice: Lose a player, add a player. Hemsky will make his season debut tonight against a very favorable matchup. The veteran forward has 71 points in two seasons with the Stars, so expect him to take a top-six role straightaway. Saturday, 10:07 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Matt Moulson playing well for Sabres
Matt Moulson has been playing some good hockey for the Buffalo Sabres.

Advice: Molson had a disappointing season last season, as he scored just eight goals in 81 games, but this year's been different. He's already scored two goals and his work rate is noticeably better too. "It comes from the work, having an extra spurt here and there to get to pucks," he said. "It's how I want to play, getting a lot of chances. If you do that, you're likely to be more successful." Saturday, 7:56 am
  • Troy Brouwer gets ready for a weird game
Saturday's game against the St. Louis Blues will be a weird one for Troy Brouwer.

Advice: Brouwer was with the Blues last season. "I know I didn’t have a long stint there but you’re playing against a bunch of friends," said Brouwer. "We were going to have a few of them over for dinner on Friday night, just to see some good buddies again and then face-off against them the next day." Brouwer has been around long enough and has switched teams a handful of times so he can draw on personal experience when it comes to dealing with these types of games. Saturday, 5:43 am
  • Ales Hemsky (groin) is probable Saturday
Ales Hemsky (groin) will probably be available on Saturday.

Advice: That would be a nice break for Dallas given that the Stars will be missing Patrick Sharp (concussion-like symptoms) and possibly Patrick Eaves (lower body) due to injuries sustained on Thursday. Hemsky hasn't played yet this season. Friday, 11:55 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Troy Brouwer nets third goal of 2016-17
Troy Brouwer scored a goal in Calgary's 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Advice: Brouwer has started off the 2016-17 campaign with a pattern of scoring one goal in every other game, which at this point has given him three markers in five contests. It's certainly a productive start for him, especially after he was limited to 18 goals in 82 contests last season. Friday, 6:37 am
  • Nail Yakupov scores against his old team
Nail Yakupov scored the lone goal for the Blues in a 3-1 loss to Edmonton on Thursday.

Advice: He nearly had two goals as he rang one off the post as well in the loss. It had to feel good for the former first overall draft pick of the Oilers to get a goal against his old squad. Yakupov has two goals and one assist for three points in five games for his new team. Thursday, 10:59 pm
  • Jason Spezza scores 2 points in OTL to Kings
Jason Spezza picked up a pair of points in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Advice: Spezza registered the primary assist on Radek Faksa's first period goal and his third period tally with under three minutes remaining in regulation tied the game at three. After failing to pick up a point in the first two games of the year, Spezza has two goals and an assist in his last two outings. Jamie Benn also scored for the Stars, while Tyler Seguin recorded a pair of assists. Thursday, 9:15 pm
  • Jeff Skinner scores and adds assist in win
Jeff Skinner scored and added an assist in Carolina's 4-2 win over Calgary on Thursday.

Advice: Skinner added the insurance marker for his team on the power-play late in the third period. He had four shots but was a minus-1 on the night. That's five points in four games so far for the Canes best point producer. Victor Rask and Teuvo Teravainen and Viktor Stalberg scored the other goals for the Canes. Thursday, 9:14 pm
  • Kris Versteeg goes from first to fourth line
Kris Versteeg has been removed from the top line of Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau.

Advice: It appears Alex Chiasson has taken Versteeg's role. Instead, Versteeg is now on the fourth line with Matt Stajan and Matthew Tkachuk. That might not last for very long though, so take that all with a grain of salt when trying to determine each player's value. The main takeaway is that it might not be a great idea to use Versteeg on Thursday at least. Thursday, 7:05 am
  • Ales Hemsky (groin) won't play Thursday
Ales Hemsky (groin) isn't ready to play Thursday.

Advice: However, he did skate Wednesday and he is nearing a return to the lineup. Thursday, 6:08 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Nail Yakupov set to face Oilers on Thursday
Nail Yakupov is expected to play with Paul Stastny and Robby Fabbri on Thursday versus his former Edmonton teammates.

Advice: "He's been getting better and better every game," coach Ken Hitchcock said Wednesday after practice. "Yesterday was his best game for us. We moved him up (the lineup) based on his play. He's got an element that we need. He's got some speed, he's got some ability to make plays off the rush, which is helpful for us." He has one goal and one assist in four games with the Blues. Wednesday, 2:34 pm
  • Blues place Jori Lehtera (UBI) on IR
Jori Lehtera (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve by the Blues.

Advice: He suffered an upper-body injury in last Saturday's 3-2 win over the New York Rangers. The earliest he is eligible to return would be Oct. 25 against Calgary. Lehtera has not recorded a point in three games this season. Wednesday, 1:26 pm
  • Jamie McGinn moved to IR by Arizona
Jamie McGinn (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve.

Advice: He is retroactive to Oct. 5 and remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury. McGinn is still waiting to make his season debut with Arizona. Wednesday, 12:42 pm
    Injured Reserve
  • Jiri Hudler (illness) expected to sit Thurs.
Jiri Hudler (illness) is not expected to play Thursday.

Advice: He didn't play in Tuesday's contest match against Nashville because of an illness. Hudler was still feeling under the weather on Wednesday, so he didn't practice. Wednesday, 11:45 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Artem Anisimov bounces back big Tuesday night
Artem Anisimov notched two goals and two assists in a 7-4 victory versus the Philadelphia Flyers.

Advice: He has produced five points in his last two games and he stayed away from the penalty box on Tuesday night. He has taken four penalties this season and Chicago's opponents have scored during three of them. Wednesday, 9:35 am
  • Alexander Radulov gets first point with Habs
Alexander Radulov got on the board in Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh.

Advice: He scored 4:31 into the third period on the power play. The Canadiens went 1-for-6 with the man advantage in the match. Radulov also earned six penalty minutes in the match, which included a double-minor for high-sticking. Wednesday, 7:40 am
  • Claude Giroux records three points Tuesday
Claude Giroux registered three assists in a 7-4 loss to Chicago on Tuesday.

Advice: That brings Giroux up to four assists in three games this season. He had six contests where he recorded three or more points in 2015-16. Wednesday, 6:01 am
  • Patrick Kane scores 4 pts in win over PHI
Patrick Kane scored a goal and three assists in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Advice: Kane scored his first goal of the season just 56 seconds into the game. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period, but they watched the Flyers come back to tie the game at four. That's when Kane and linemates Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin went to work, as they combined to score the final three goals of the game. Kane finished this contest with a plus-3 rating, two penalty minutes and six shots on goal in 20:12 of ice time. The 27-year-old has six points in four games this season. The line of Kane, Panarin and Anisimov combined to score 11 points tonight. Tuesday, 9:23 pm
  • Monahan scores game winner in OT
Sean Monahan scored his second goal of the season in overtime to lift the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Advice: Monahan gave the Flames their first lead of the night after the teams swapped goals through three periods of play. He lost the final faceoff but played aggressively against the boards and then earned the game winner with assists from Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano. This was the second assist of the night for Giordano, who also participated in the game tying goal by Matthew Tkachuk at the 4:52 minute period of the third. In the past three seasons, Monahan has been a big part of the Flames offense with 82 goals on 241 games played. Tuesday, 9:02 pm
  • Jason Spezza scores GWG vs. NSH
Jason Spezza scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators.

Advice: Spezza gave the Stars a 2-1 lead at the 9:15 mark of the third period. Antoine Roussel picked up the only assist on the game-winner. Although it's still early in the season, it was good to see Spezza contribute after he struggled in the first two games of the year. Adam Cracknell also scored for the Stars on Tuesday night. Tuesday, 8:42 pm
  • Avs will scratch Ben Smith on Tuesday
Ben Smith will be a healthy scratch in Colorado's game against Washington on Tuesday night.

Advice: After defeating the Penguins last night, the Avs will make one change to their lineup and it's Smith coming out for veteran Cody McLeod. Defenseman Eric Gelinas is also expected to watch the game from the press box. Tuesday, 3:53 pm
  • Jason Spezza playing RW on third line
Jason Spezza is expected to play on the wing on Tuesday night at Nashville.

Advice: He will line up at right wing on the third line with Antoine Roussel and Radek Faksa. "I got some great play out of him on the wing playing with Matty Janmark," coach Lindy Ruff said referring to last year. "I like what Devin Shore has done, and I am bumping him up a little bit. Faksa and Roussel have played well together; [Spezza] should be a good fit over there. He can still step in and take those key draws in our end. It's really just a part-time position when you have two centermen because if he is on the right side in his own end, he is taking those draws and playing center. It's basically the same as what we had last year with him and Janmark together." Tuesday, 1:16 pm
  • Jamie McGinn (UBI) won't return on Tuesday
Jamie McGinn (upper body) isn't in Ottawa with the Arizona Coyotes.

Advice: That obviously rules McGinn out for Tuesday's contest against the Senators. That game will be the start of a six-game road trip for Arizona, but McGinn might join the Coyotes at some point during the trip. Tuesday, 1:33 am
    Injured Reserve
  • Ales Hemsky (groin) is getting closer
Ales Hemsky (groin) is getting closer to being available to play.

Advice: "He's getting better. He had a really good skate yesterday," said coach Lindy Ruff on Monday. "I think if we can get him three or four more skates, get him inside some harder practices, we're getting closer with him. I'm hoping by the end of the week." Hemsky suffered a groin injury during the World Cup of Hockey and he missed the entire preseason as a result. Monday, 3:17 pm
    Injured Reserve
  • Jori Lehtera (UBI) won't travel to Vancouver
Jori Lehtera (upper body) won't travel with the Blues to Vancouver.

Advice: He isn't expected to play on Tuesday, but could join the team at some point on the three-game trip this week. Lehtera didn't skate on Monday after leaving Saturday's game with an upper-body injury. Monday, 11:57 am
  • Jiri Hudler (illness) doubtful for Tuesday
Jiri Hudler is doubtful for Tuesday's match at Nashville because of the flu.

    Injured Reserve
  • Pavel Buchnevich out Monday with back spasms
Pavel Buchnevich will sit out Monday's game against San Jose because of back spasms.

    Injured Reserve
  • Matt Moulson has two goals in two games
Matt Moulson potted his second goal of the year in Sunday's 6-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers.

Advice: He had three goals in 11 games last October, but scored just eight times in 81 contests. Moulson is looking to be much better in 2016-17 and he is off to a good start with a goal in each of his first two matches. Oct 17, 6:58 am
  • Lehtera leaves game with UBI
Jori Lehtera left Saturday night's game against the Rangers in the second period with an upper-body injury.

Advice: That's not good news as the Blues have Jaden Schwartz already sidelined and lost Kyle Brodziak in Saturday night's contest as well. We will keep you updated on Lehtera's condition but consider him day-to-day for now. Oct 16, 11:04 am
  • Anisimov struggling so far
Artem Anisimov has struggled out of the gate.

Advice: We don't know if his surgically-repaired wrist is bothering him but Anisimov has been terrible in the faceoff circle and has taken a number of foolish penalties. As well, he has recorded only an assist in three games despite playing alongside Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin. We expect Anisimov to improve, but if his wrist is actually hurting, his rebound to last-season's level of production could be in doubt. Oct 16, 9:54 am
  • Radulov plays well even though blanked
In case you were wondering, Alexander Radulov is playing very well even if he has little to show for it on the scoresheet.

Advice: Radulov, who is still looking for his first point as a Canadien, played a strong two-way game against Ottawa Saturday night. In fact, he hit the post and was dangerous all night. Be patient with him. Oct 16, 8:08 am
  • Coach Gulutzan loves Micheal Ferland's energy
Coach Glen Gulutzan loves the way Micheal Ferland plays.

Advice: Gulutzan was an associate coach in Vancouver during the 2015 playoffs and was impressed with the energy and grit of Ferland and it has carried over to this season as he is now Ferland's head coach in Calgary. Oh, he was so effective," Gulutzan said about Ferland's performance in 2015. "He was such an energy guy in that series. I think he had a huge impact on the series. He was physical. Our ‘D’ were aware when he was out there and he forced us to make plays. He was one of the two or three guys that were impactful on the series. To me, he was a guy that rose up and put his team in a real good spot. His level rose to the occasion." While Ferland won't light up the scoresheet, he is an effective player for Calgary. Don't draft him at this time. Oct 16, 2:55 am
  • Torrey Mitchell returned to action on Saturday October 15. Oct 15, 11:12 pm
  • Troy Brouwer gets credit for zany goal
Loui Eriksson's own-goal went to Troy Brouwer, the only time the Calgary Flames "scored" in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

Advice: Brouwer & Co. otherwise couldn't beat Ryan Miller, who was on fire and may have been credited with a shutout on Saturday night. Brouwer now has two goals as he still makes an early impression with the Flames. Oct 15, 10:31 pm
  • No Jamie McGinn for Coyotes on Saturday
Jamie McGinn (upper body) will not play on Saturday for the Coyotes, and his status for the upcoming trip is in doubt as well.

Advice: "It's disappointing for him, I’m sure, and disappointing for us he’s not in the lineup," coach Dave Tippett said. Surely, that's an understatement. Certainly not the way McGinn wanted to kick off his season, but stay patient, the 28-year-ole has shown he can play well with elite talent. Something to look forward to once he does return. • Sean Monahan scores a goal in loss
Sean Monahan scored a goal in a 5-3 loss to the Oilers on Friday.

Advice: All signs point to Monahan being fully recovered from his back injury sustained during the World Cup of Hockey. The goal was Monahan's first point of the season. He is a major fantasy asset, especially with Johnny Gaudreau on his wing. Michael Frolik and Jyrki Jokipakka also scored for the Flames in the loss. Oct 14, 9:09 pm
