  • Evgeni Malkin records a goal, assist vs Isles
Evgeni Malkin had a goal and an assist in the Penguins' 4-2 win over the Islanders on Thursday.

Advice: Malkin has recorded at least a point in three of his last four games. He's up to three goals and eight points in eight contests in 2016-17. 49 minutes ago
  • H. Lundqvist will likely get the nod Friday
Look for Henrik Lundqvist to play between the pipes on Friday.

Advice: Lundqvist will be going for his fourth straight win. He has a 2.35 GAA and .907 save percentage in six contests this season. 57 minutes ago
  • Tyler Toffoli records a goal on Thursday
Tyler Toffoli found the back of the net in a 3-2 overtime victory against Nashville on Thursday.

Advice: Toffoli has two goals and six points in seven games this season. He needs just three more points to reach the 150 mark for his career. Today, 1:55 am
  • McLellan pushes Nugent-Hopkins' two-way work
Oilers coach Todd McLellan feels Ryan Nugent-Hopkins deserves more recognition for his defensive work.

Advice: "He’s not going to put up a lot of points or score lots but he does a lot of good things all over the rink and doesn’t get enough credit for it," said McLellan. "He plays in every situation — on the power play, killing penalties, important face-offs, regular-strength shifts — and he’s gone against some of the best players in the world." While that's fair, it's interesting to hear McLellan talk about Nugent-Hopkins not scoring much. Nugent-Hopkins is a former first overall pick that had 52 points as a rookie, but has never really grown offensively beyond that strong start. At this point he's needed in less of an offensive role behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, although Nugent-Hopkins still has four assists in seven games. Today, 1:46 am
  • Brandon Saad picks up an assist Thursday
Brandon Saad registered an assist in a 3-1 loss against San Jose on Thursday.

Advice: Saad has a goal and three points in six games this season. That's a somewhat mediocre start, but it's too early for it to be concerning. He's got a good shot at matching his 2015-16 totals of 31 goals and 53 points. Today, 1:37 am
  • Michael Stone suffers an upper-body injury
Michael Stone sustained an upper-body injury during Thursday's game.

Advice: Coyotes coach Dave Tippett didn't think Stone's injury was serious, but we should learn more in the near future either way. Stone has three assists in four games this season. Today, 1:32 am
  • Hampus Lindholm needs to get a work visa
Now that Hampus Lindholm is signed to a six-year contract, the Swedish defenseman will need to go through the work visa process.

Advice: Lindholm is in Sweden and it might take a little bit of time before he's able to start practicing with the Ducks. When he does meet up with the team, he'll likely need to participate in a few practices before he's ready to make his 2016-17 debut given that he missed all of training camp and the start of the season. Today, 1:11 am
  • Dale Weise finishes his three-game suspension
Dale Weise has completed his three-game suspension.

Advice: Weise was being punished for hitting Anaheim’s Korbinian Holzer in the head. He returned to the Flyers' lineup on Thursday and registered an assist in 8:50 minutes of ice time. Today, 1:05 am
  • Matt Irwin was called up from the minors on Thursday October 27. Today, 1:05 am
  • Scott Hartnell scores lone goal in loss to SJ
Scott Hartnell picked up his second goal of the season in a 3-1 Blue Jackets loss to San Jose on Thursdays.

Advice: Hartnell crashed the net hard to bury a rebound with 2:58 left in the third period to give the Jackets some hope but it turned out to be the only goal scored by his club on the night. The rugged winger was also credited with four hits and two blocked shots in over 13 minutes of ice-time. He has two goals and four points in six games now. He's a pretty consistent scorer in this league with 20 plus goals in five of the last six seasons. He's usually underrated in drafts. Today, 12:59 am
  • Pekka Rinne rock-solid in OT loss to LA
Pekka Rinne made 42 saves in Nashville's 3-2 overtime loss to Los Angeles on Thursday.

Advice: It was his second start in as many nights but he still showed up to play. He made two key saves in overtime but the Kings dominated puck possession and managed to get one by him on a crazy deflection play with 28 seconds left in the extra period. Rinne falls to 1-3-0-1 on the season and has a disappointing early goals-against-average of 3.25 with an equally disappointing .909 save percentage in five games started. The Preds have started slowly but they are very talented so we expect Rinne and the team to turn things around soon. Today, 12:27 am
  • Viktor Arvidsson scores shorthanded in loss
Viktor Arvidsson picked up his fourth goal of the season and added an assist in a 3-2 Nashville loss to LA on Thursday.

Advice: Arvidsson's goal was shorthanded and at the time, put the Preds ahead 2-1 in the game. He also recorded an assist on Craig Smith's goal in the second period. Arvidsson has four goals and two assists in seven games thus far this season. It's a nice start for the 23-year-old Swede who tallied just eight goals in 56 NHL games last season. Today, 12:21 am
  • Peter Budaj wins fourth straight start
Peter Budaj turned aside 24-of-26 shots in 3-2 overtime win over Nashville on Thursday night.

Advice: The win is his fourth straight in as many starts so fantasy owners have to be thrilled with that. "He's played really well for us. We don't give up much, and he's expected to make some big saves, obviously, but we don't give up many shots," said Kings coach Darryl Sutter on Budaj. It's true, he only had to make eight saves in the third period and overtime combined but a win is still a win. Budaj carries a 2.21 and a .901 save percentage into his next start. Today, 12:11 am
  • Kevin Shattenkirk scores in loss to DET
Kevin Shattenkirk scored a goal in Thursday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Advice: Shattenkirk opened the scoring at the 2:31 mark of the second period before Frans Nielsen tied the game just over 11 minutes later. The score remained tied until the shootout. Henrik Zetterberg scored the game-winner in the eighth round of the shootout to give Detroit the win. Shattenkirk has three goals, three assists and a minus-4 rating in eight games this season. He's averaging 20:31 of ice time per game so far. Yesterday, 9:51 pm
  • Connor Hellebuyck makes 38 saves in win
Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 38 of 39 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

Advice: The Jets have been waiting for one of their goaltenders to step up and tonight, they got a strong performance from their youngster. The win was Hellebuyck's first since opening night of the Jets season. He has a 2-2-0 record with a 2.79 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage. Yesterday, 9:42 pm
  • Pekka Rinne will face Los Angeles on Thursday
Pekka Rinne will face Los Angeles on Thursday night.

Advice: After allowing four goals on 17 shots in just 35 minutes of work in Wednesday's debacle, coach Peter Laviolette appears ready to trust his primary netminder once again. Yesterday, 7:11 pm
  • Irwin tags in for Carle vs Kings on Thursday
Matt Irwin will make his Predators debut when he tags in for Matt Carle for Thursday's match with LA.

Advice: The near 29-year-old has 50 points in 155 career NHL games, while averaging a hit and bit more than a block per game. But he doesn't play much, so we wouldn't count on him. Yesterday, 4:38 pm
  • Hellebuyck in net vs St. Louis on Thursday
Confirming an earlier note, Connor Hellebuyck will indeed be in net against St. Louis on Thursday night.

Advice: With 10 goals against in three games on just 83 combined shots, Helleybuyck isn't making much of a case for himself to own Winnipeg's net. You may wish to find a more favorable matchup. Yesterday, 3:39 pm
  • Peter Budaj is expected to start on Thursday
It looks like Peter Budaj will start on Thursday.

Advice: Budaj was the first goalie off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good indicator of who the starter will be. He has a 2.32 GAA and .893 save percentage in four contests this season. Yesterday, 11:10 am
  • Connor Hellebuyck should get the nod Thursday
Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start on Thursday.

Advice: Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson have been rotating in and out each game so far this season. Hellebuyck has a 3.41 GAA and .880 save percentage in three games. Yesterday, 10:06 am
  • Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gets 2 assists Wednesday
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins registered two assists in Edmonton's 4-1 victory over Washington Wednesday night.

Advice: Nugent-Hopkins got off to a bit of a sluggish start with one point in his first five contests. However, he's starting to heat up with three helpers in his last two games. He doesn't have a goal through seven games though. Yesterday, 7:29 am
  • Ducks ink Hampus Lindholm to six-year deal
Hampus Lindholm has signed a six-year, $31.5 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

Advice: Lindholm was a restricted free agent. He's already missed training camp and the first eight games of the campaign as his contract negotiations dragged on, so at this point we're concerned about him being behind the curve once he does make his season debut. Those short-term concerns aside though, a $5.25 million annual cap hit for Lindholm looks pretty good. He's just 22 years old, but has already established himself as a huge part of the Ducks' defense. In his first three NHL seasons, he's recorded 92 points and averaged 21:04 minutes per game in 236 contests. Yesterday, 7:18 am
  • Pekka Rinne returned to action on Wednesday October 26. Yesterday, 12:32 am
  • Rinne pulled in second as Preds lose to Ducks
Pekka Rinne was pulled at the 15:04 mark of the second period as the Nashville Predators lost 6-1 to the Anaheim Ducks.

Advice: Rinne gave up four goals in the first and second periods of Wednesday night’s loss. It was a goal by Corey Perry—his 670th career point—that broke the camel’s back. Less than two minutes later Andrew Cogliano scored a shorthanded, unassisted goal against Marek Mazanec to prove that it was not all Rinne’s fault. The hits kept coming as Ryan Kesler scored at the 19:13 mark. Rinne’s save percentage was an abysmal .765 after he started the season .922, but he may still have been feeling the effects of his bout with food poisoning that devastated the team in the past few games. Mazanec gave up two goals on nine shots for a save percentage of .778. Wednesday, 10:23 pm
  • Henrik Lundqvist makes 27 saves in win
Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 27 of 29 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Lundqvist gave up two goals in the first period, but was perfect the rest of the way. He's now given up two goals in each of his last three games and has come out victorious in each one. He'll enter his next start with a 4-2-0 record, a .2.35 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage. As expected, he's a must-start every time he's between the pipes. Wednesday, 8:08 pm
  • Peter Budaj stops 19 in win over Blue Jackets
Peter Budaj blocked 19 shots in the 3-2 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday night.

Advice: Budaj rebounded from two modest games. He was in net against the Dallas Stars Thursday Oct. 20 and gave up three goals on 20 shots for an .850 SV%. Saturday night he was credited with the win against the Canucks with an .880 SV%. In Tuesday’s win over the Blue Jackets, he posted a .905 save percentage. Budaj has been forced to work hard so far this season, as all three of his wins have come in overtime. Tuesday, 10:34 pm
  • Kevin Shattenkirk scores PPG in loss to CGY
Kevin Shattenkirk scored a power play goal in St. Louis' 4-1 loss to Calgary.

Advice: Shattenkirk's third period goal cut the Flames' lead to 3-1, but that's as close as they'd come to tying the game. Vladimir Tarasenko and Colton Parayko picked up the assists on Shattenkirk's second goal of the season. Tuesday, 9:34 pm
  • Peter Budaj expected to start vs. CBJ
Peter Budaj will get the call in Tuesday's game against Columbus.

Advice: Budaj opened the season as the Kings' third string goalie, but has been forced into duty because both Jonathan Quick and Jeff Zatkoff are injured. He has a 2-0-0 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average and a .889 save percentage. Tuesday, 3:23 pm
  • Lundqvist's typically well in 2nd half of B2B
Henrik Lundqvist has traditionally been successful in the second half of back-to-back sets.

Advice: Lundqvist holds a 47-21-7 career record those contests, including Sunday's contest where he helped defeat Arizona by turning aside 27 of 29 shots. Given that this season's schedule is somewhat more condensed than it typically is, the Rangers and Lundqvist's past success when playing with no rest could be a big help this season. Tuesday, 6:06 am
  • Henrik Lundqvist makes 27 saves for victory
Henrik Lunqvist made 27 saves on 29 shots to boost the Rangers past the Coyotes 3-2 on Sunday night.

Advice: The King improves to 3-2 this season as he tries to shake off a so-so start to the year. The 34-year-old allowed six goals in the first two games of the year, and has allowed two goals in each of the three games since. Sunday, 7:31 pm
  • Hellebuyck sunk by Oilers in Heritage Classic
Connor Hellebuyck allowed three goals on 32 shots in the 3-0 loss in Sunday's Heritage Classic to Edmonton.

Advice: He'd surely like to have a couple of those tallies back, especially the short-handed goal by Mark Letestu. Hellebuyck falls to 1-2-0 in three games this season with 10 goals allowed. Sunday, 4:47 pm
  • Henrik Lundqvist will face Arizona on Sunday
Henrik Lundqvist will face Arizona on Sunday night.

Advice: Since allowing six goals on 46 shots in his first two games of the season, Lundqvist has allowed just four goals on 46 more shots over his previous two games. A slight improvement, but a sign that one of the world's best goalies is getting back on track. Sunday, 12:11 pm
  • Hellebucyk confirmed as Sunday's starter
Connor Hellebuyck has just been confirmed as Sunday's starter.

Advice: Make sure you hve him active if you need him. The Oilers are a high-scoring squad, but outdoor games typically are not offensive showcases. Sunday, 10:02 am
  • Hellebuyck in net vs EDM in Heritage Classic
Connor Hellebuyck will be in net for Winnipeg as they take on Edmonton in Sunday's Heritage Classic.

Advice: A bit ironic given that Hellebuyck is an American, but hey, it's not like he was on Team USA last month. Anyway the young netminder is off to a shaky start with seven goals allowed in two games, but with today's short ledger you might as well play him and hope for the best. Sunday, 9:57 am
  • Lundqvist gives Rangers 3rd win of season
Henrik Lundqvist blocked 26 shots in New York Rangers' 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals Saturday night.

Advice: Lundqvist’s night was highlighted by 19 saves in a row after Alexander Ovechkin scored the second of two goals for the Capitals late in the first. Lundqvist closed off the box for the remainder of the game and was perfect during the last two periods. Saturday, 11:51 pm
  • Peter Budaj gets another win. In 2016.
The Los Angeles Kings managed a 4-3 shootout win against the pesky Vancouver Canucks, with Peter Budaj being the unlikely recipient of a victory.

Advice: The 34-year-old is now on a two-game winning streak, even if his numbers haven't been spectacular. He gave up three goals on 25 SOG, but the Kings won. Things haven't been pretty for Los Angeles, so carving out points is pretty huge, even if style points are in short supply. Saturday, 10:22 pm
  • Pekka Rinne out sick Saturday vs Pittsburgh
Pekka Rinne will not dress for Saturday's match with Pittsburgh, presumably due to food poisoning.

Advice: Well, at least we know he'll be back sooner rather than later. It's no fun being sick, but it's better than a broken bone. Enjoy watching Juuse Saros take on the Penguins tonight instead. Saturday, 5:00 pm
  • Peter Budaj will face Vancouver on Saturday
After Jeff Zatkoff went down with an injury in practice, Peter Budaj will be the Kings' netminder against the Canucks on Saturday night.

Advice: Budaj has turned away 26 of 29 combined shots in two games so far this season, but has never been a steady netminder. Say what you will about Vancouver, but you're probably still better off seeking a more favorable matchup tonight. Saturday, 1:37 pm
  • Henrik Lundqvist will face Washington on Sat
Henrik Lundqvist will face Washington on Saturday night.

Advice: Lundqvist has seen eight pucks on 64 combined shots in three games thus far, which is not what we're used to from The King. The Capitals aren't a likely candidate for a turnaround, so this may be the rare time we recommend seeking a more favorable matchup. Saturday, 11:58 am
  • Scott Hartnell has two points in three games
Scott Hartnell registered an assist in a 3-2 win over Chicago Friday night.

Advice: Hartnell has two points in three games so far. That's not bad, but what hasn't been encouraging is his role thus far. He's averaged just 12:47 minutes per game, down from 15:35 in 2015-16. Saturday, 5:51 am
  • Michael Stone was activated from the IL on Friday October 21. Friday, 10:33 pm
  • Pekka Rinne stops 39 shots in loss
Pekka Rinne stopped 39 of 43 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Red Wings on Friday.

Advice: Rinne was bombarded with shots, facing 34 shots through only two periods. The Predators help a 2-1 lead during the second period largely due to Rinne making save after save. The Red Wings eventually were able to get on track, scoring three goals in just over a span of 12 minutes between the second and third periods. His record drops to 1-2-0 on the season with the loss. Friday, 7:19 pm
  • Michael Stone warming up for Coyotes
It looks like defenseman Michael Stone will be returning to the Arizona Coyotes' lineup Friday night.

Advice: He is on the ice for the Coyotes' warmup before their game against the New York Islanders. Stone has missed all previous games this season because of a knee injury. He had 36 points and 62 penalty minutes in 75 games last season. Friday, 3:40 pm
  • NHL suspends Dale Weise for three games
Dale Weise has received a three-game suspension for hitting Anaheim’s Korbinian Holzer in the head.

Advice: The NHL felt Holzer was eligible to be checked on the play, but Weise could have avoided contact to the head. Holzer was able to finish the game, but Weise has been suspended before for a check to the head. Weise will be eligible to return on Oct. 27. Friday, 2:33 pm
  • Henrik Lundqvist will start on Saturday
Henrik Lundqvist is expected to start in Saturday's game.

Advice: It will be Lundqvist's fourth start in five contests. Backup Antti Raanta might get the nod on Sunday, but that hasn't been decided yet. Friday, 11:44 am
  • Dale Weise has hearing scheduled for Friday
Dale Weise has a hearing scheduled for hitting Anaheim’s Korbinian Holzer in the head.

Advice: Weise wasn't punished for the incident during the game. His hearing will happen on Friday, so we might find out about the NHL's decision by the end of the day. Friday, 7:45 am
  • Peter Budaj makes 17 saves, LAK win first gm
Peter Budaj stopped 17 of 20 shots in Los Angeles' 4-3 OT win over the Dallas Stars.

Advice: After a couple of ugly outings from Jeff Zatkoff, the Kings decided to turn to Budaj and it worked, as he helped the team pick up their first win of the season. Los Angeles never trailed in this game, but they still needed overtime to get the job done. Budaj's stat line wasn't fantastic tonight, but with Zatkoff struggling, he might get the start in their next game. Neither one of the Kings goalies will be a reliable fantasy option going forward. Thursday, 9:18 pm
  • Malkin scores two pts in Stanley Cup rematch
Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Advice: The Penguins entered the third period down 2-0, but they managed to score three goals in the final frame. Malkin got Pittsburgh on the board with an unassisted goal at the 6:47 mark of the third. The Sharks failed to clear the puck and sent it straight to Malkin who turned and fired a wrist shot by San Jose's Martin Jones. Malkin also assisted on Patric Hornqvist's game-winning goal. He has two goals and three assists in five games this season. Thursday, 7:44 pm
  • Kings will start Peter Budaj Thursday night
Peter Budaj will start for the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Advice: Budaj is making his first start since being called up to help in Jonathan Quick's (groin) absence. Quick is likely to be gone for at least three months, so Budaj and Jeff Zatkoff have a lot of work ahead of them. Thus far the Kings have leaned on Zatkoff, but he's struggled so far, so Budaj might end up getting used with more regularity going forward. Thursday, 11:41 am
  • Peter Budaj might begin getting starts
Although Peter Budaj hasn't gotten a start yet in Jonathan Quick's (groin) absence, he might start getting used with some regularity.

Advice: The Kings were initially leaning on Jeff Zatkoff, but that hasn't produced positive results so now Los Angeles might split the goalie duties more evenly. It will be telling to see what the Kings do over the next four games in particular because they're well spread out, so Los Angeles won't need to split the goaltending duties over that span for fatigue reasons and consequently any starts Budaj get over that span would likely be for other reasons. Thursday, 7:33 am
  • Henrik Lundqvist gives up two goals in loss
Henrik Lundqvist allowed two goals on 18 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Detroit.

Advice: The Rangers outplayed the Wings for most of the night, but Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard was the difference in this one. Lundqvist had a costly mistake in the third period, as he coughed up the puck behind his net before Drew Miller buried it to give Detroit a 2-1 lead. The Rangers goalie has a 1-2-0 record with a 2.71 goals-against-average and a .875 save percentage this season. Wednesday, 8:19 pm
  • Henrik Lundqvist in goal Wednesday vs. DET
Henrik Lundqvist will be between the pipes for the Rangers on Wednesday night versus Detroit.

Advice: He has allowed three goals in each of his previous two appearances this season. Lundqvist has a 1-1-0 record with an .870 save percentage. Wednesday, 11:10 am
  • Pekka Rinne gives up two goals in loss
Pekka Rinne allowed two goals on 37 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Advice: Rinne picked up the loss tonight, but it's hard to blame him on either one of Dallas' goals in this game. The Preds goalie has give up just four goals in his two starts in 2016-17. He has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.04 goals-against-average and a .934 save percentage this season. He'll be a solid starting goaltender in standard fantasy leagues. Tuesday, 8:56 pm
  • Penguins blanked by Habs on Tuesday
Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins were blanked 4-0 by the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

Advice: The Penguins managed to fire 36 shots on Canadiens goalie Al Montoya, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The result wasn't completely unpredictable, as they played a tough game against the Avalanche last night. Malkin finished the game with two penalty minutes and two shots on goal in 18:21 of ice time. Tuesday, 7:58 pm
  • Pekka Rinne to play against Dallas
Pekka Rinne will be in goal for Tuesday's contest against Dallas.

Advice: He blocked 22 shots in a 3-2 win over Chicago last Friday in his previous start. Rinne will have to be at his best versus the high-scoring Stars. Tuesday, 1:21 pm
  • Hampus Lindholm remains unsigned
As Anaheim prepares for its fourth game of the season on Tuesday, Hampus Lindholm remains unsigned.

Advice: Lindholm is still a restricted free agent after recording 28 points and averaging 22:00 minutes of ice time per game in 2015-16. Obviously having the 22-year-old defensemen sitting out is a far from ideal scenario, but a huge part of the issue is Anaheim's cap situation as they have a bit over $300K in cap space. Anaheim waived Mason Raymond on Monday, so if he's claimed or demoted then the Ducks would free up an additional $675K, but that still probably wouldn't be nearly enough to re-sign Lindholm. Tuesday, 1:25 am
  • Connor Hellebuyck losing goalie in Winnipeg
Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Boston Bruins Monday night.

Advice: Competing against Michael Hutchinson for first-string status, Hellebuyck is now 1-1-0. His goals-against average is 3.44, while his save percentage is .863. Hellebuyck and Hutchinson will share starts until the Jets' coaching staff picks an undisputed first-stringer. Monday, 10:18 pm
