    • Generates helper
Byfield provided an assist and added two PIM in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 3.

Advice: Byfield has four helpers and a plus-5 rating over three playoff contests. The 21-year-old is seeing steady top-six minutes, though this was the first time in three games he started on the top line. Byfield can offer offense with a little physicality, but it remains to be seen if reuniting him with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe will be the adjustment the Kings need to keep pace in this first-round series. • Supplies trio of helpers
Nugent-Hopkins registered three assists in Friday's 6-1 win over the Kings in Game 3.

Advice: Two of the three helpers came on the power play. Nugent-Hopkins is up to four points (three on the power play), five shots on net, five hits and a minus-1 rating through three playoff contests. The winger continues to play in a top-six role and on the first power-play unit, which should lead to plenty of chances in an offense that's racked up 17 goals over its first three postseason games. • In goal for Saturday
Varlamov will get the starting nod at home for Game 4 against the Hurricanes on Saturday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Varlamov was initially benched for Game 3 but came on in relief of Ilya Sorokin in the second period -- Varly stopped all eight shots he faced from that point on. Overall, Varlamov is sporting a 2.41 GAA and .915 save percentage through three playoff appearances, but he's lost both of his starts. At this point, if Varlamov puts together a good enough performance to earn a victory in Game 4, he'll almost certainly get the nod for Game 5 on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:25 am
    • Lights lamp twice in Game 3 win
Tkachuk scored two goals on five shots while adding five hits, two blocked shots and a plus-1 rating Thursday in a 5-3 win over the Lightning in Game 3.

Advice: The 26-year-old winger opened and closed the scoring on the night, beating Andrei Vasilevskiy midway through the first period before firing home an empty-netter late in the third. Tkachuk has three goals and five points to fuel the Panthers' 3-0 start to the series, and Florida will try to secure the sweep Saturday back in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:47 am
    • Needed in relief
Varlamov stopped eight shots after entering in relief of Ilya Sorokin in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 loss to the Hurricanes.

Advice: After Varlamov dropped the first two games of the series, the Islanders turned to Ilya Sorokin on Thursday in an attempt to change the momentum. However, Sorokin allowed three goals on Carolina's first 14 shots before the Isles turned back to Varlamov midway through the second period. The 35-year-old Varlamov managed to hold the Canes scoreless over the game's final 30:33 minutes, though New York ultimately couldn't find a tying goal, leaving Sorokin with the loss. Varlamov figures to be back between the pipes for Saturday's do-or-die Game 4. Despite the Islanders' struggles thus far in the series, Varlamov's posted a solid .915 save percentage through his three postseason appearances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:37 pm
    • Pulled in the second
Sorokin allowed three goals on 14 shots before he was replaced by Semyon Varlamov in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 loss to Carolina. Sorokin was credited with the loss.

Advice: Looking to climb out of a 2-0 hole in the series, the Islanders elected to switch things up and turn to Sorokin in net for Game 3. The 28-year-old netminder allowed two goals on the first six shots he faced in the first period and a third tally to Sebastian Aho 7:14 into the second before he was pulled in favor of Varlamov. Sorokin seemed to be the Islanders' unquestioned starter after signing an eight-year extension prior to the season. However, he was outplayed down the stretch by Varlamov, who took over the top goaltending job heading into the playoffs. Sorokin went 25-19-12 during the regular season with a career-low .908 save percentage and 3.01 GAA. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:24 pm
    • Supplies pair of assists
Byfield produced two assists, three hits, two PIM and a plus-4 rating in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Oilers in Game 2.

Advice: Byfield helped out on Kevin Fiala's goal in the third period and set up Anze Kopitar for the game-winner 2:07 into overtime. The 21-year-old Byfield has some momentum with five points over his last three outings, which follows a nine-game slump. He's been listed on the third line for the playoffs, but his role has been fairly interchangeable with Alex Laferriere so far. Byfield will have the better scoring outlook of the two even if he doesn't get back into a top-six role officially. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:02 pm
    • Helps out on power play
Benn earned a power-play assist and levied seven hits in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Golden Knights in Game 2.

Advice: Benn has two points, seven shots on net and 11 hits through two playoff contests. The 34-year-old is no stranger to physical play, and his offense hasn't been the problem in the first round -- the Stars have been a little leaky defensively while losing the first two games of the series. Benn has plenty of postseason experience and should be leaned on to lead the team, both with offense and in the locker room. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:31 pm
    • Nets go-ahead goal
Hanifin scored a goal in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Stars in Game 2.

Advice: Hanifin's tally late in the second period stood as the game-winner. The defenseman has three points over two playoff contests as he continues to show why Vegas was interested in trading for him in March. In addition to a top-pairing role at even strength, Hanifin is also seeing time on the first power-play unit and killing penalties, making him arguably the Golden Knights' most important blueliner thus far in the postseason.
