Crawford will start Saturday's Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against Detroit with the Blackhawks trailing 3-1 in the series, according to the Associated Press. Recommendation: This isn't much of a surprise considering Crawford did enough in Thursday's Game 4 loss to Detroit, allowing just one goal in the shutout loss. Chicago is facing elimination on Saturday and Crawford will need to be close to perfect if the series' previous three contests have been any indication.
Seidenberg skated 29 shifts in Saturday's 3-1 win over New York. He appears to be healed from the leg injury that had sidelined him since Game 7 of Boston's first-round series against Toronto. Recommendation: He'll benefit further by the likely layoff of a few days before the conference final begins at Pittsburgh.
Anderson allowed six goals for the second-consecutive contest, as Ottawa lost 6-2 to Pittsburgh on Friday in Game 5 of its Eastern Conference semifinal, giving the Penguins the series win. Recommendation: Anderson had a rough series save for the win in Game 3, as he allowed 12 goals in the last two games against a superior team. Anderson was able to guide the Sens farther than most assumed Ottawa would go and will be a trendy pick next fall as a goalie that's essentially guaranteed to eat minutes and gather wins.
Spezza notched an assist on one of Ottawa's two goals in Friday's series-ending Game 5 loss to Pittsburgh in the teams' Eastern Conference semifinal series. Recommendation: Spezza's return to action was a welcomed sight for the Sens, but even the dynamic playmaker's presence was not enough to overcome the Penguins. Spezza played in the series' final three games, his first since the end of January, registering one assist and averaging just over 18 minutes. Expect Spezza to be fully healthy next season and produce at his usual point-per-game level.
Campbell scored twice as the Bruins clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference Final with a 3-1 win over the Rangers on Saturday. Recommendation: His first tally was the game-winner; the second came in the final minute with New York's net untended. But the goals count, for on-ice and fantasy purposes. The B's now move on to face the Penguins for a chance at the Stanley Cup.
Staal (eye) was not on the ice for warmups before Saturday's Game 5 against Boston, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports. Recommendation: Staal is still struggling with his vision, and a return before the end of this season may be unlikely given the 3-1 deficit the Rangers are currently facing.
Turris factored into both Ottawa goals in Friday's 6-2 Game 5 loss to Pittsburgh that saw the Penguins advance to the Eastern Conference finals. Turris had three goals in the last four games. Recommendation: Turris finished the playoffs with nine points in 10 games and established himself as one of the team's top forwards heading into next season. He's still young and loaded with potential talent and definitely worth taking a mid-round flier on next fall.
Kane is expected to be on the same line with Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews for the Blackhawks' top line for Game 5 against Detroit of the Western Conference semifinals, ESPN Chicago reports. Recommendation: Kane has been one of the few bright spots offensively scoring the lone two goals for the team in the last three games. The trio had only seen sparse time together, but has worked well in the past. The Blackhawks need scoring and they are going to try to put three of their top scorers on one line. "They've played together in the past," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. "They've played together during the year, a few shifts here and there. I think they like playing together. We'll see how it goes."
Updating a previous report, while Powe (undisclosed) was out taking pregame warmups, he is not listed in the lineup for Saturday's Game 5 against the Bruins, according to Dan Rosen of NHL.com. Recommendation: It sounds like Powe is close to being able to take the call if needed, but for now the Blueshirts will go with the same forward lines that beat the Bruins in Game 4.
Stralman (undisclosed) will not play in Saturday's Game 5 against the Bruins, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports. Recommendation: Stralman will sit for the second game in a row, after taking a hard hit from Boston's Milan Lucic in Game 3. The Rangers have not commented on the extent or nature of the injury.
Redden (undisclosed) did not take the ice for warmups before Saturday's Game 5 against the Rangers. Recommendation: Redden was able to practice Friday but is going to miss at least one more game. He is nursing an undisclosed injury and has yet to play in the ongoing series against the Rangers.
Sharp is expected to be on the same line with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews for the Blackhawks' top line for Game 5 against Detroit of the Western Conference semifinals, ESPN Chicago reports. Recommendation: The trio had only seen sparse time together, but has worked well in the past. The Blackhawks need scoring and they are going to try to put three of their top scorers on one line. "They've played together in the past," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. "They've played together during the year, a few shifts here and there. I think they like playing together. We'll see how it goes."
Toews is expected to be centered with Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp for the Blackhawks' top line for Game 5 against Detroit of the Western Conference semifinals, ESPN Chicago reports.
Clowe, who has yet to play in the second-round series against the Bruins due to an undisclosed injury, is not in the lineup for Saturday's Game 5, according to Newsday's Steve Zipay. Recommendation: Brad Richards is also sitting out this one as the Rangers try to stave off elimination one more time. Clowe has been able to play in just two games this postseason.
Malkin snapped a two-game pointless streak with a goal and an assist Friday night. Recommendation: Even with a mini-scoring drought, Malkin has netted four goals and 16 points in the playoffs, one point behind Boston's David Krejci for the league lead.
Quick stopped all 24 shots in faced in a 3-0 win over the Sharks on Thursday. Recommendation: Quick may have started off slowly this postseason but he' clearly back on track and flashing the form he showed in the 2012 playoffs that netted him the Conn Smythe.
Stepan contributed a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over Boston. Recommendation: Stepan snuck in behind the Boston net, swiped the puck from Zedeno Chara for a wrap around by Tuukka Rask, notching the game-tying goal early in the third period. It's the third year center's first point since Game 1 and fifth point overall in 11 playoff contests this season.
Demers returned to play in Thursday's Game 5 match-up after being out with an injury since mid-April. Recommendation: Demers only say 3:47 of ice time though and had two minutes in the box for a rough boarding call against LA's Robyn Regher. His return was notable because, like teammate Brent Burns, the Sharks have moved Demers to forward. Could be interesting for future games if the Sharks can stay alive.
Coach Todd McLellan said Burish (hand) is "very close" to playing and could be available for Sunday's Game 6 against the Kings, the Calgary Sun reports. Recommendation: Burish was similarly questionable for Game 5 but ultimately sat out in the 3-0 loss to the Kings. The 30-year-old didn't supply much in the way of offense in the regular season, charting just 3 points and minus-7 rating over 46 games.
Vokoun made 29 saves in a 6-2 series-clinching victory Friday night against the Senators. Recommendation: He's now 5-1 in the playoffs, with his only blemish coming in Ottawa's double-overtime Game 3 win. Vokoun's performance Friday was so expected that he wasn't even named one of the game's three stars. The 36-year-old has given Pittsburgh a calm presence in goal and will likely stay there until he gets hurt or has a bad game. Right now, nothing seems to be able to slow him or the Penguins down. The team will await the winner of the Rangers-Bruins series to play against in the East finals.
Kindl scored his first career playoff goal, which stood as the eventual game-winner in Thursday's victory over Chicago. Recommendation: For a player who struggled at times to stay in the regular blue-line rotation last season, Kindl's emergence over the course of the year has been a huge boost to the Wings as they had to adjust to life without Nicklas Lidstrom heading up their blue-line corps this season. Although his offensive contributions are not elite, Kindl's expanded role put him on pace for a 26-point season if projected over a typical 82-game slate.
Rask gave up four goals on 32 shots in Thursday's OT loss to the Rangers. Recommendation: The Rangers played well in a must-win situation in Game 4, but the series is now headed back to Boston and Rask will be counted on to bounce back to his form from the previous three games where he allowed just five goals on 96 shots.
McElhinney signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Blue Jackets, the Columbus Dispatch's Aaron Portzline reports. Recommendation: McElhinney spent the 2012-13 season with AHL Springfield, going 29-16-3 with a 2.32 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. The contract gives him a big leg up on being Sergei Bobrovsky's backup with the big club next season.
Staal (knee) plans to begin riding a stationary bike next week, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Recommendation: Hitting the bike represents the first step in what is expected to be a three-month rehab process for Staal. It looks like he'll be healed in plenty of time for training camp if his rehab remains on schedule.
Neal netted a hat trick and added an assist in a 6-2, series-clinching win Friday night against the Senators. Recommendation: He has five goals (on 14 shots) and seven points in the last two games. Linemate Evgeni Malkin predicted a breakout for Neal -- who totaled three points in his first seven playoff games -- prior to Wednesday's tilt and the forward has more than followed through. Surprisingly, just two of his 10 points have come courtesy of the power play.
