Ullstrom has signed to play in the KHL, according to the Islanders Point Blank. Recommendation: Ullstrom had five points in 20 games for the Islanders this past season and while the numbers are far from great, he was also benched many times in favor of someone like Marty Reasoner who had no future with the team. It's a shame they lost someone so young without knowing what they really had but the Isles are also loaded with young talent ready to come up from the AHL and Ullstrom may have realized that making the squad out of trainign camp was going to be an uphill battle.
Briere is expected to be bought out by the Flyers after the Stanley Cup finals, csnphilly.com reports. Recommendation: While Briere appears to be in line to be a compliance amnesty buyout (the new CBA allows for two) by the Flyers, the status of goalie Ilya Bryzgalov evidently remains up in the air on that front.
The Red Wings hope Helm can start skating again in July, the Detroit Free Press reports. Recommendation: Helm's back injury has been a bit of a mystery as he would feel better, start skating, then have another setback. After not playing for months, Detroit hopes the rest will get back the speedy center back to solid health.
Bergeron went 24-of-28 (86 percent) on faceoffs in Monday's 2-0 Game 3 win over the Blackhawks, ESPN.com reports. Recommendation: Bergeron, who also scored his seventh goal of the playoffs in the game, now has 13 points in 19 postseason games overall. That ties him for fourth among the B's in playoff scoring, and Bergeron's outstanding two-way play continues to be crucial to the team's success.
Rask stopped all 28 shots he faced in Monday's 2-0 win over the Blackhawks in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals. Recommendation: The shutout was Rask's third of the postseason, with the effort lifting his save percentage to a playoff-best .946 and lowering his GAA to spiffy 1.64. Should the Bruins -- who are up 2-1 over the Hawks at present -- prevail in the series, Rask would be a Conn Smythe Trophy frontrunner.
Voynov has signed a six-year deal with the Kings that is reportedly worth $25 million, ESPN.com reports. Recommendation: The 23-year-old, who notched 25 points in 48 regular season contests, picked up the pace in the playoffs, finishing with six goals and 13 points in 18 games, currently second among blueliners this postseason to Pittsburgh's Kris Letang.
The Islanders are one of several teams interested in acquiring King goaltender Jonathan Bernier, according to Newsday. If that's the case, Niederreiter is likely to be among the trade chips sent to Los Angeles. Recommendation: El Nino and the Islanders' brass seem to be better off parting ways, and this could be just the way to do it, benefiting both the Isles (who need a long-term goalie) and Niederreiter (who needs a new organization).
Bernier is a candidate to be traded this offseason, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reports. Recommendation: The report suggests that the Leafs and Flyers are the front-runners to obtain Bernier. Assuming he does get traded, Bernier's fantasy value would be in line for a boost, as he's been stuck serving as Jonathan Quick's primary backup for the last three seasons.
Paille scored for the second straight contest in Monday's 2-0 win over the Blackhawks in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals. Recommendation: For most of the season the Bruins struggled to find consistent third line production, but the Paille/Tyler Seguin/Chris Kelly trio formed in Game 2 of the team's current series has flourished at an ideal juncture and been instrumental in the Bruins taking a 2-1 lead in the finals.
Datsyuk has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Red Wings, the Detroit News reports. Recommendation: Datsyuk has a year left on his current contract, so Tuesday's deal ensures that he will remain with Detroit for the next four years. Datsyuk finished up this past season as the Red Wings' top scorer, with 49 points in 47 games to go along with a team-high plus-21 mark.
Scandella, a restricted free agent, signed a two-year deal worth $2.05 million to remain with the Wild, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Recommendation: Scandella will require waivers next season if he's not on the NHL roster, so this contract likely ensures he'll begin next season in Minnesota.
Hossa (upper body), according to Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, is likely to play in Wednesday's Game 4. Recommendation: Hossa was forced to miss Game 3 after leaving the ice during warmups, but is now expected to return Wednesday. With seven goals and eight assists in 19 playoff games this postseason, the Blackhawks will welcome Hossa back with open arms as they look to even up the series.
Streit has signed a four-year deal with the Flyers, TSN's Darren Dreger reports. Recommendation: The Islanders recently traded Streit's rights to Philadelphia for Shane Harper and a fourth-round pick. The Flyers didn't waste much time signing the veteran puck-moving blueliner, who recorded six goals and 27 points in 48 regular-season games for the Islanders this past season.
Smith will see his first NHL action since April 27 as he suited up on Monday in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals, the Chicago Tribune reports. Recommendation: Smith skated for the Blackhawks on April 27 in the last regular season game against the Blues. He gets the call after Marian Hossa was a late scratch with an undetermined injury. It will be his first appearance in an NHL playoff game since the 2010-11 season, and he did well then with three goals in seven games, all against the Canucks. The 24-year-old forward posted a career-high 47 points for Rockford of the AHL.
Couture agreed to a contract extension with the Sharks on Monday, CSN's Brodie Brazil reports. Recommendation: While the length and the value of Couture's extension have not yet been disclosed, the 24-year-old center has reportedly re-upped with San Jose. It certainly makes sense that the Sharks would want to keep Couture around, considering he led the team with 21 goals during the regular season did so again in the playoffs with five.
Stalberg is in line to play on a line with Marcus Kruger and Michael Frolik in Monday's Game 3 against the Bruins, Tracey Myers of CSNChicago.com reports. Recommendation: Stalberg has just three assists in 15 playoff games to date, but he brings more speed and offensive upside to the table than Brandon Bollig, who he is slated to replace in Monday's lineup.
Bickell is going to go back to the basics or in journalism parlance KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) to re-energize his offense for Game 3 on Monday against the Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals, ESPN Chicago reports. Recommendation: Bickell had been a terror in the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs until the first two games of the Stanley Cup finals where he has no points and only two shots on goal against the Bruins. He registered five goals, four assists and 24 shots on goal during an eight-game span from the final three games of the Western Conference semifinals against the Detroit Red Wings through all five games of the Western Conference finals against the Los Angeles Kings.
Nilstorp has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Stars, the team's official site reports. Recommendation: Nilstorp will continue to provide the Stars with goaltending depth behind Kari Lehtonen, with RFA Richard Bachman presumably in the mix as well. In five appearances with the Stars this past season, the 29-year-old Nilstorp recorded a 1-3-1 record with a .897 save percentage and a 3.09 GAA.
Horton skated 30 shifts in Saturday's overtime win at Chicago. He had one shot on goal and delivered no hits. Recommendation: Looks like the shoulder injury is a thing of the past; he should be good to go again in Game 3 on Monday.
Ovechkin (broken left foot) said he's progressing well in his recovery and remains on track to return in time for training camp, the Winnipeg Free Press reports. Recommendation: Ovechkin said he was walking without any issues and plans to test out the foot further by playing tennis in the near future. The Hart Trophy winner sustained the hairline fracture to his foot in Game 6 of the first-round series with the Rangers, but played through the injury in a Game 7 loss.
Bobrovsky won the Vezina Trophy on Saturday as the NHL's best goaltender, beating out Henrik Lundqvist and Antti Niemi for the award. Recommendation: That sound you just heard was Goalie Bob's asking price going up, as the restricted free agent is still in contract talks with the Jackets. It would be a major surprise if he didn't return to Columbus, but he won't come cheap.
Crawford allowed two goals on 28 shots as the Blackhawks dropped a Game 2 heartbreaker in overtime on Saturday. Recommendation: The Hawks' last three games have come at a fairly leisurely pace, but the schedule picks up from here, with Game 3 coming Monday in Boston. There's a very slight possibility that Chicago could send Ray Emery out for a start in the upcoming week, to give Crawford a breather. But Crawford has started and finished all 19 of the Blackhawks' postseason games, so that chance remains slim.
Sharp put the Blackhawks up early in Saturday's Game 2 with a first-period tally in the 12th minute of play. But the Chicago attack fizzled after that, and Boston purloined a 2-1 overtime win to even the series at one game apiece. Recommendation: He'll continue to get his share of points as the playoffs wind down; Chicago's fortunes will depend on how many of his teammates chip in with goals of their own.
Lucic delivered 10 hits in Saturday's overtime win at Chicago. He didn't have a shot on goal or an assist in 24:33 of ice time. Recommendation: The 10 hits are a great indicator of how tightly played this game was. But no shots on goal? There's a stat that will change in Monday's Game 3.
Kelly logged his first point of the postseason Saturday, scoring a crucial game-tying goal in the second frame of Boston's Game 2 win at Chicago. He finished the game plus-2. Recommendation: On a night when the Bruins' primary offensive threats were held in check, it fell to Kelly and Daniel Paille to even the series at a game apiece. Despite the Bruins' strong playoff run, Kelly has somehow managed to compile a minus-7 rating in the postseason, indicating how minor a role he has played in the team's success.
