    • Good to go for Game 1
Dobson (upper body) is expected to be available for Saturday's Game 1 versus the Hurricanes, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Advice: Hanifin missed the last three games of the regular season due to an upper-body injury, but he should slot into his usual featured role skating on the top pairing and first power-play unit for Game 1. He racked up a career-high 70 points through 79 contests during the regular season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:49 am
    • Starting in Carolina
Varlamov will defend the visiting crease in Carolina on Saturday for Game 1, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Advice: Varlamov took over from Ilya Sorokin down the stretch, starting in seven of the Islanders' last 11 games. Varlamov won his last five starts, ending the season with a 14-8-4 record, to go with a 2.60 GAA and a .918 save percentage, Varlamov was 1-0-0 in his only start versus the Hurricanes this season, stopping 39 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory. • Snaps slump to end regular season
Byfield scored a goal on eight shots and added an assist in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over the Blackhawks.

Advice: Both points came on the power play. Byfield entered Thursday on a nine-game point drought. He was able to snap the drought with a second-period tally, and he also set up Viktor Arvidsson's equalizer in the third. Late slump aside, Byfield took a big step forward in 2023-24, finishing with 20 goals, 55 points (14 on the power play), 161 shots on net, 66 hits and a plus-19 rating over 80 appearances. Byfield spent most of the season on the top line, but he may be more sheltered in the postseason. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:47 pm
    • Will play Thursday
Nurse (rest) is drawing back into the lineup Thursday versus Colorado, per the NHL media site.

Advice: Nurse was a healthy scratch in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Arizona so that he could get some rest before the playoffs. He has 10 goals, 32 points, 79 PIM, 181 shots, 167 hits and 169 blocks in 80 appearances this season while serving in a top-four capacity. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:25 pm
    • Dealing with shoulder issue
Stutzle said Thursday that he dealt with a shoulder injury during the 2023-24 campaign, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Advice: Stutzle will need another opinion in terms of whether or not he'll require surgery. The talented center missed the last seven games of the season. Stutzle ended up with 18 goals, 70 points, 192 shots on goal and 100 hits in 75 appearances this season. He regressed from 2022-23, when he managed 39 goals and 90 points in 78 appearances. • Not playing Thursday
Miller (rest) will be out of the lineup versus Winnipeg on Thursday, according to John Lu of TSN.

Advice: The Canucks have clinched their playoff spot atop the Pacific Division standings and will give Miller the night off. He surpassed the 100-point mark for the first time in his career this season, scoring 37 goals and adding 66 assists. He will return to the lineup on the weekend for Game 1 of the playoffs. • Practicing Thursday
Slavin (rest) took part in practice Thursday ahead of Game 1 against the Islanders on Saturday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Advice: Slavin has three multi-point games over his last five outings, tallying a combined seven points over that stretch. The blueliner has been fairly streaky offensively this season, so fantasy players may want to exercise caution when considering him for daily lineups. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:09 am
    • Strong in shootout win
Oettinger stopped 25 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout win over the Blues.

Advice: Oettinger wrapped up the regular season by winning 10 of his last 11 outings, allowing just 17 goals in that span. The 25-year-old looked dialed in for this victory, which secured the top spot in the Western Conference and No. 2 in the league for the Stars this season. Oettinger is at 35-14-4 with a 2.72 GAA and a .905 save percentage through 54 appearances this season. He'll play the vast majority, if not all, of the Stars' playoff contests. • Out Wednesday
Dobson (upper body) will miss Wednesday's tilt versus Pittsburgh, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.

Advice: It will be Dobson's third straight contest on the shelf. Given this is the Islanders' season finale, he'll finish the regular season with 10 goals, 70 points, 36 PIM, 84 hits and 180 blocks in 79 outings. It remains to be seen if Dobson will be available for Game 1 of the playoffs, but if he does feature in that clash, it will likely be as a member of the top pairing. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:38 pm
