    • Returning to lineup
Skjei (rest) was back at practice Thursday after getting Tuesday's game versus Columbus off, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Advice: Skjei missed the last two games of the regular season, as coach Rod Brind'Amour gave him some time off in order to be healthy and ready for the playoff matchup versus the Islanders. Skjei had a five-game point streak at the end of the season, ending the 2023-24 campaign with 13 goals and a career high 47 points. He will be paired alongside Brett Pesce entering the postseason. • Not playing Thursday
Boeser (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup in Winnipeg on Thursday, per Irfaan Gaffar of The Fourth Period.

Advice: Boeser has been dealing with an undisclosed injury and did not travel with the team to Winnipeg. He should be fine for Game 1 of the playoffs. Boeser ends the regular season with 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games -- including 16 goals and nine assists on the power play. Phil Di Giuseppe could enter the lineup on the fourth line Thursday. • Makes history in finale
Kucherov scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Maple leafs.

Advice: His second-period helper on a Brayden Point tally put Kucherov in the history books as the fifth player in NHL history to accumulate 100 assists in a season -- rarified air that was previously only reached by Wayne Gretzky (a mind-boggling 11 times), Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr (once each) before both Kucherov and Connor McDavid did it in 2023-24. The 30-year-old Lightning superstar claimed his second scoring title with a career-high 144 points through 81 games, while his 44 goals were also a personal best. Kucherov will lead the Lightning into the playoffs beginning Sunday against the Panthers. Rotowire.com Today, 7:58 am
    • Can't find 70th goal
Matthews was held without a point despite a game-high 12 shots on net in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Lightning.

Advice: Neither team had anything to play for in the standings, but Matthews needed only one goal to become the ninth player in NHL history with 70 in a season, so his Leafs teammates fed him the puck at every opportunity. The closest he came to lighting the lamp was when he rocketed a shot off the post behind Matt Tomkins in the second period. Matthews instead had to settle for a franchise record 69 goals in 81 games, and his 107 points were a career high as well as the fourth-highest total in Toronto history, behind Doug Gilmour (127 in 1992-93 and 111 in 1993-94) and Darryl Sittler (117 in 1977-78). • Two-point effort against Pens
Nelson produced an even-strength goal and a power-play assist in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Penguins.

Advice: After opening the scoring early in the first period, the 32-year-old helped set up Kyle Palmieri with only 16 seconds left in the second frame. Nelson extended his point streak to five games and goal streak to three games in the process, and over that stretch he's racked up four goals and eight points. If the Islanders are going to upset the Hurricanes in the first round, Nelson will likely need to remain locked in. On the season, he delivered 34 goals and 69 points, falling just short of the career-best numbers he posted in 2022-23. Rotowire.com Today, 7:32 am
    • Two helpers in season finale
Bunting recorded a pair of assists in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders.

Advice: Bunting had five multi-point efforts over the course of his 21-game stint in Pittsburgh. The winger thrived while playing in a second-line role for the Penguins, a spot he will likely continue to hold down heading into the 2024-25 campaign. The 28-year-old Ontario native fell one tally shy of reaching the 20-goal threshold, a mark he should be capable of getting back to with a full season on Evgeni Malkin's wing next year. • Offers helper Wednesday
Schenn notched an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Stars.

Advice: Schenn had his ups and downs again in 2023-24, but he posted five goals and four assists over eight games in April. The 32-year-old forward produced 46 points over 82 contests this season, his lowest total in a full-length campaign since 2013-14. He added 170 shots on net, 169 hits, 51 blocked shots, 56 PIM and a minus-22 rating while mainly seeing top-six usage. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:31 pm
    • Registers helper in win
Duchene notched an assist and three shots on goal in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout win over the Blues.

Advice: Duchene's offense faltered over the final quarter of the campaign, as he managed just nine points across the final 20 contests. The 33-year-old had been consistent earlier in the year, but he clearly felt the impact of Tyler Seguin missing time with a lower-body injury. Duchene concludes the regular season with 25 goals, 65 points, 172 shots on net, 48 blocked shots and a plus-15 rating over 80 appearances in a second-line role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:19 pm
    • Takes step back with 67-point year
Hischier provided an assist in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders, wrapping up the 2023-24 season with 27 goals and 67 points in 71 appearances.

Advice: Hischier posted his second-highest point total and appeared in the third-most games of his seven-year career, but this season has to be viewed as a disappointment on the heels of his 80-point output in 2022-23. The first overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft also took a significant step back defensively, with his rating dropping from plus-33 last season to minus-5 as the Devils missed the postseason in 2023-24.
