    • Starting in Carolina
Varlamov will defend the visiting crease in Carolina on Saturday for Game 1, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Advice: Varlamov took over for Ilya Sorokin as New York's No. 1 netminder down the stretch, starting in seven of the Islanders' last 11 regular-season games. Varlamov won his last five starts, ending the season with a 14-8-4 record to go with a 2.60 GAA and a .918 save percentage, Varlamov stopped 39 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Hurricanes in his lone appearance against the team this season Nov. 30. • Back at practice Friday
Hedman (illness) returned to practice Friday, per Gabby Shirley of Bally Sports Florida.

Advice: Hedman had another terrific regular season, scoring 13 goals and adding 63 assists. The Lightning's top blueliner had one assist in each of Tampa Bay's three games versus Florida, the team's first-round playoff opponent, this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:32 am
    • Struggles in finale
Skinner allowed four goals on 13 shots before he was replaced by Calvin Pickard in the second period of Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche. Skinner was credited with the defeat.

Advice: It certainly wasn't what Skinner had in mind for his final tune-up before the postseason -- the Avs scored four times in the first 10:17 of the opening period before Skinner was replaced by Pickard to start the second. The 25-year-old Skinner had won three of his previous four outings prior to Thursday, posting a .921 save percentage in that span. He'll wrap up the regular season at 36-16-5 with a .905 save percentage and 2.62 GAA. Skinner figures to be back between the pipes when the Oilers open the playoffs Monday at home versus the Kings. • Scores two goals Thursday
Arvidsson scored twice and added an assist in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over the Blackhawks.

Advice: Arvidsson got the Kings on the board in the second period, set up a Trevor Moore tally late in the frame and then scored a power-play marker late in the third to force overtime. Arvidsson has been strong in April with five goals and five assists over nine contests. While he was limited to 18 regular-season appearances, Arvidsson produced 14 points (five on the power play), 59 shots on net and a plus-4 rating while seeing top-six minutes over that stretch. He'll be a solid choice for fantasy managers participating in playoff contests. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:43 pm
    • Picks up 30th assist, 60th point
Karlsson logged a power-play assist and three shots on goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks.

Advice: Karlsson slowed down a bit in early March, but he picked up the pace again with six goals and eight assists over the final 12 contests of the regular season. The 31-year-old center ended the campaign with 30 goals, 30 helpers, 175 shots on net and a plus-15 rating over 70 appearances, earning just the second 60-point campaign of his career. He'll likely begin the postseason on the third line, but the depth and versatility of the Golden Knights' offense is strong enough for him to be effective from that role. • Pots lone goal in loss
Eichel scored a power-play goal on six shots and went minus-2 in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks.

Advice: Eichel racked up six goals and five assists over eight games in April. The 27-year-old center ends the regular season with 31 tallies, 68 points (22 on the power play), 278 shots on net, 61 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 63 appearances. Eichel will look to lead the Golden Knights in the first round versus the Stars, a rematch of last year's Western Conference Finals. He led the playoffs with 26 points last spring. • Leaves Thursday's game
Drouin (undisclosed) left Thursday's game versus the Oilers, and head coach Jared Bednar did not provide an update on the forward's status following the contest, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.

Advice: Drouin left the game late in the second period and didn't play in the third. The Avalanche have generally had decent luck keeping players healthy down the stretch, but the timing of this injury is unfortunate. It's unclear if Drouin will be ready to suit up for Game 1 of the Avalanche's first-round series versus the Jets on Sunday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:40 pm
    • Starting in Colorado
Skinner will guard the road goal versus the Avalanche on Thursday, per the NHL media site.

Advice: Skinner has gone 3-1-1 with 10 goals allowed on 118 shots over five outings in April. He'll get one more tune-up versus the Avalanche in preparation for the playoffs. Skinner may have a tough time getting a win, as the Oilers' entire top line and first defense pairing is being rested for Thursday's game, while the Avalanche will have all of their key players in the lineup. • Will play Thursday
Nurse (rest) is drawing back into the lineup Thursday versus Colorado, per the NHL media site.

Advice: Nurse was a healthy scratch in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Arizona so that he could get some rest before the playoffs. He has 10 goals, 32 points, 79 PIM, 181 shots, 167 hits and 169 blocks in 80 appearances this season while serving in a top-four capacity. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:25 pm
