    • Gathers helper Friday
Nurse logged an assist, three shots on goal and six blocked shots in Friday's 6-1 win over the Kings in Game 3.

Advice: Nurse snapped a three-game dry spell by helping out on Leon Draisaitl's first-period tally. The 29-year-old Nurse posted 32 points in 81 regular-season contests in 2023-24, his lowest point total in six years. He remains a physical force with 172 blocked shots, 168 hits and 79 PIM, but he may not contribute much offense in the postseason. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:38 pm
    • Goal streak at three games
Stamkos scored a goal on two shots and added six hits, two blocked shots and a minus-2 rating Thursday in a 5-3 loss to the Panthers in Game 3 of the Lightning's first-round series.

Advice: The 34-year-old has done his best to keep Tampa Bay afloat, finding the back of the net in three straight games to begin the playoffs, but his team still faces the prospect of getting swept after losing all three contests. Stamkos also has a couple career milestones in his sights -- he needs two more playoff goals for 50 in his caree, and one more playoff point for 100. He might need to reach both marks Saturday in Game 4 in order for the Lightning to stay alive. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:04 am
    • Opens scoring in Game 3
Burns scored a goal on his lone shot in Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 win over the Islanders

Advice: Burns opened the scoring 4:48 into the first period, firing a puck from the point that glanced off an Islanders' defender and past Ilya Sorokin. It's the first point of the postseason for Burns, whose last goal came March 10. The 39-year-old blueliner had 10 goals and 33 points in 82 regular-season games. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:17 am
    • Two more points Thursday
Svechnikov recorded two assists in Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 win over the Islanders.

Advice: Svechnikov set up Dmitry Orlov's goal midway through the first period before adding a second helper on Sebastian Aho's eventual game-winning tally in the second. It's Svechnikov's second straight two-assist game. The 24-year-old winger had 19 goals and 52 points in 59 regular-season contests. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:08 am
    • Pulled in the second
Sorokin allowed three goals on 14 shots before he was replaced by Semyon Varlamov in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 loss to Carolina. Sorokin was credited with the loss.

Advice: Looking to climb out of a 2-0 hole in the series, the Islanders elected to switch things up and turn to Sorokin in net for Game 3. The 28-year-old netminder allowed two goals on the first six shots he faced in the first period and a third tally to Sebastian Aho 7:14 into the second before he was pulled in favor of Varlamov. Sorokin seemed to be the Islanders' unquestioned starter after signing an eight-year extension prior to the season. However, he was outplayed down the stretch by Varlamov, who took over the top goaltending job heading into the playoffs. Sorokin went 25-19-12 during the regular season with a career-low .908 save percentage and 3.01 GAA. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:24 pm
    • Supplies pair of assists
Byfield produced two assists, three hits, two PIM and a plus-4 rating in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Oilers in Game 2.

Advice: Byfield helped out on Kevin Fiala's goal in the third period and set up Anze Kopitar for the game-winner 2:07 into overtime. The 21-year-old Byfield has some momentum with five points over his last three outings, which follows a nine-game slump. He's been listed on the third line for the playoffs, but his role has been fairly interchangeable with Alex Laferriere so far. Byfield will have the better scoring outlook of the two even if he doesn't get back into a top-six role officially. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:02 pm
    • In goal for Game 3
DeSmith will start Game 3 on the road versus the Predators on Friday, Robby Stanley of NHL.com reports.

Advice: DeSmith is now the Canucks' top goalie since Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) is considered week-to-week. DeSmith struggled in Game 2 on Tuesday, allowing three goals on 15 shots in a 4-1 loss. The 32-year-old will likely need a bit more goal support from his team, as well as a better performance from himself between the pipes, in order for the Canucks to have a chance to regain a series lead. • Expected starter for Thursday
Sorokin is set to start at home against Carolina on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.

Advice: Sorokin had a 25-19-12 record, 3.01 GAA and .908 save percentage in 56 appearances during the regular season. Semyon Varlamov was in net for the first two contests of the Islanders' first-round series and initially appeared to be the projected starter for Game 3 after being the first goaltender off the ice following Wednesday's morning skate, but coach Patrick Roy has indicated New York will make a change in goal. Carolina has a 2-0 series lead and has outscored the Islanders 8-4. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:59 am
    • Takes loss Tuesday
DeSmith allowed three goals on 15 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Predators in Game 2. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

Advice: Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) was out of action, so it was DeSmith's turn in the crease for the Canucks. His first outing of the postseason was poor -- the Predators were opportunistic with their chances early on and successfully bunkered down in the third period to hold the lead. DeSmith was mediocre in the regular season with a 12-9-6 record, a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage over 29 appearances. If Demko remains sidelined, DeSmith will likely need more help from the team in front of him in order to find success as the series shifts to Nashville for Game 3 on Friday and Game 4 on Sunday.
